In the shadow of the Battle of Nations Monument lies one of Germany's most impressive surface monuments : the Leipziger Südfriedhof. Already at the end of the 19th century a park-like cemetery complex with spectacular tombs was built here.
Between ancient trees and lush rhododendrons, there are not only imposing buildings, mausoleums and sculptures, but also the largest columbarium north of the Alps. Many tombs reflect the need for representation of the wealthy citizens of Leipzig, even beyond death. Some testify to fame and honor, some to rise and fall, some to love and passion.
