Discover the beauty of Muscat’s iconic Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque on this one-hour guided tour. Your expert guide will lead you through the stunning complex, starting with its grand entrance, five minarets (symbolizing the Five Pillars of Islam), and the 50-meter-high central dome. Stroll through the serene marble courtyard and lush gardens before entering the breathtaking main prayer hall. Marvel at the world’s second-largest hand-woven carpet (4,000 sqm, crafted by 600 artisans) and a dazzling 14-meter chandelier adorned with Swarovski crystals. Admire intricate Islamic calligraphy, mosaic tiles, and geometric designs that reflect Oman’s craftsmanship. Visit the beautifully decorated women’s prayer hall and explore open-air corridors with polished sandstone columns. The surrounding gardens, with reflecting pools and floral landscapes, offer perfect photo opportunities. Your guide will share fascinating insights into the mosque’s construction, blending Omani, Persian, and Mughal influences, and its significance as a symbol of Sultan Qaboos’s vision for Oman. By the end, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation of Islamic art, Omani culture, and the mosque’s timeless grandeur.

Having booked for 8am, we were messaged the evening before that it was now 9am. I double checked and accepted the change of time. As per the instructions we aimed to arrive ten minutes before, and actually arrived nine minutes before. We messaged the guide and tried calling at 8:55 and 9:00 to check we were in the right place. We got a message back at 09:01 from our guide Mahmood that he was still picking a group up. At 09:22 he arrived. However, faffing around with others who had not read and/or not comprehended the simple dress code instructions, plus Mahmood trying to ascertain where another couple on the tour were meant we moved into the mosque at about 09:35 to wait whilst he sorted out the stragglers and then we got going at 09:45. Now you need to factor in that the heat and the crowds keep increasing, a reason why the 08:00 start was the choice in the first place. As for the tour itself, Mahmood was informative but did provide some insights into how things worked at prayer within to augment the detail that was already provided in a guide book on Oman. It was done at a good pace, although could have benefited from a slightly smaller group to contain and move and Mahmood not consulting his mobile so frequently throughout. So all in all, a three out of five, it was OK but could be improved most by better timeliness.

his guided walking tour of the Corniche, Souq, and Mutrah Fort was absolutely wonderful. From the first moment, our guide made the experience engaging, sharing fascinating stories and insights that brought Muscat’s history and culture to life. Strolling along the Corniche at sunset was breathtaking, with the sea on one side and the mountains on the other — a scene that truly captures the beauty of Oman. Exploring the Mutrah Souq was a highlight, full of vibrant colors, traditional crafts, and the aroma of spices. Our guide not only helped us navigate but also explained the traditions behind what we were seeing, making the visit feel authentic and personal. Climbing up to Mutrah Fort was the perfect finale. The views over the harbor and city are stunning, and learning about the fort’s history gave us a deeper appreciation of Muscat’s past. The pace of the tour was relaxed, yet we felt we experienced so much in just a few hours. This is the ideal tour for anyone who wants to connect with Muscat’s heart and soul beyond just sightseeing. Highly recommended!
