Haleakala is known for rapidly changing weather conditions and dense clouds and rain are common. As a result, clear viewing of the sunrise is not guaranteed, and the tour operates rain or shine. Refunds will be granted only when the tour is cancelled for safety reasons.
The high altitude at the summit area may complicate health conditions and breathing difficulties. Elderly visitors, pregnant women, young children, and those with respiratory or heart conditions should consult their doctor prior to touring. Walk slowly and drink water to avoid dehydration. If you have gone scuba diving, you should wait at least 72 hours before going on this tour.

What an amazing experience! This was worth the early AM hustle. What a special moment. Looking down at the clouds and seeing the sun start to peak through is remarkable!! Hawaiian chant began once sun began to shine. I’d would definitely go see it. We tried to book through rec.gov page, but no luck! The cost through Viator is $$$; but it was the one big thing I wanted to do on our trip. The tour company was great, communicated with details, driver knowledgeable and experienced.

Definitely pack layers, people were numb for hours afterwards because of how cold it was and our tour guide claimed it was a nice day. The tour guide was very helpful and friendly however, I’m not sure it’s worth the money.. I would rather get a permit and do it myself next time. The tour guide talked for longer than an hour while we were completely parked, then we drove up 1.5 hours and back down 1.5 hours. It was such a long day I was exhausted being picked up at 2am and getting back at 12pm. Took 45 minutes just to pick up and drop off people around the island. A lot of riding. The sunrise was beautiful, but most people ended up staying in the car for an hour plus on top of the other hours he was talking to us. We arrived at 5am and the sunrise was at 615 so we just waited for that as well. They have 3 options for breakfast a lot with pork and a bowl of fruit is one of the options which is a little crazy to me for $288. Would I do it again? No.

Our tour guide, Wayne was knowledgeable and made the tour fun and pleasurable. The weather up to see the sunrise wasn't so great but it was definitely worth the experience.

It’s a very unique experience, everyone should try it. Although we didn’t see the Sun rise due to clouds too thick that day, but it is still a great experience

Driver was on time, very knowledgeable and took excellent care of our small group. The bus was very nice, roomy and clean. Viator and the tour company sent very detailed info on the pickup time and expectations multiple times to ensure we knew what to do. Sean, our driver and guide was fun and made sure we all had a good time. We went to the Mill House for breakfast after the Haleakala sunrise. Highly recommend!
