At 947m above the sea level rises Pico da Barrosa, where throughout the route we can observe the diversity of the local fauna and flora. An enormous crater hides the glamorous Lagoa do Fogo at the top of the Fogo (Fire) Volcano at 575m above sea level. The beauty of the scenery sharpens ours senses with the luxurious vegetation – some endemic – from a spectacular landscape that reveals the magnificence of what nature presents us, on a journey that will last in your memory.

On the way towards Ponta Delgada, we will stop at the refreshing waterfall scenery of Salto do Cabrito. The course on/off road may vary according the climate conditions.
Lagoa do Fogo
The Fogo Volcanic Complex, features an abundance of species of endemic flora and secondary volcanism manifestations, that consists on fumaroles and hot springs. The caldera of the Fogo Volcano is the smallest caldera collapse of the island of São Miguel, with about 15 thousand years. Given to its location in altitude, it is the most natural area and with the less human intervention suffered. It is an important hydrologic resource being classified as a Nature Reserve since 1974. Because of its structure, it plays an extremely important role particularly in the replacement of underground water, regulation of the water cycle, biomass production, retention of sediments and nutrients and is therefore classified as Ramsar site.

5.00José shared his love for Sao Miguel throughout the half day tour. Visiting Lagoa Fogo, Cabrito waterfall and sorroundings were lovely. He is a very knowledgeable guide (fauna, geology, history etc) and tailored the tour to our wishes. Can only recommend traveling with him.

5.00Our guide, Jose, was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was a very interesting and educational experience. At the end of the tour we asked Jose to suggest a good sea food restaurant. He not only recommended a wonderful restaurant but called in advance to make sure they were open and dropped us off at their doorstep. He definitely went the extra mile.

5.00The weather didn't cooperate for us for views from the volcano but the guide was awesome. As was the rest of the tour! I admit, the weather lulled me into starting to doze in the car (not our guides fault) but my boyfriend talked to him the whole time and was so impressed!

5.00Our day on Sao Miguel Island in the Azores with our knowledgeable guide Josef was one of the most enjoyable tours we have experienced. We are frequent travelers and I work in the travel industry so I am quite discerning. Josef was on time and picked us up in his 4 x 4 truck at the cruise terminal, then explained what we would see on the island. We went up into the mountains and viewed volcanoes, beautiful vistas, small towns, parks, thermal baths, and more. He speaks perfect English, is very thorough and descriptive, and as a lifelong resident offers a unique insight. We were back on the ship in plenty of time. Book his tour!
