The Cachupa hike is more than just a hike. It provides an unique insight in the culture of Santo Antao. During this hike you will get in contact with locals and learn about the flora and fauna the Island has to offer.

Want to get your hands dirty? You can! Dig up a cassave root or harvest banana’s from a tree. We will need it to prepare the Cachupa. Not into foraging and just want to enjoy unique views?

Figueira Valley - Cachupa track The Cachupa track let’s you experience Santo Antao in a whole different way! In the morning we gather in Ribeira Grande and drink locally produced coffee. After, we hike up the mountain and bring you to the best viewpoints exclusively visited by CapeVerdeTours. During the hike the local guide is able to explain about the history, culture and nature of Santo Antao. At the top of Figuera valley you have the opportunity to learn how to make Cachupa. Tired and need a break? We will make you some Cachupa! Before we descent you have the opportunity to replenish yourself with freshwater from the mountain streams. The tour finishes with a coffee or tea in Ribeira Grande. From here, we can bring you back your hotel or to the ferry in Porto Novo.

I have no words to describe how amazing this experience was. From the start, Stephan wasn’t just a guide: he made us feel part of his family. He was already waiting for us when we arrived on the ferry, with everything organized and taking care of every detail. We offered transportation options, cared about meals, places to visit and routes... we didn’t lack anything! Thanks to him we were able to know the true essence of Cape Verde, its culture, its traditions and that warmth that makes it so special. It is rating that he deeply loves his land and enjoys sharing it with his heart. He is a person attentive, respectful and authentic, always watching that the traveler feels well. In addition, the Spanish tour was perfect, full of stories, smiles and unique moments. Really, it's been an unforgettable experience, one that stays forever. Repeat at 1000 x 1000.

At the meeting point mentioned in the description, we waited 45 minutes. the guide never showed up. No way to contact the agency.

I have done 4 trekking day with Natcha, the best tour guide ever, an experience that I would repeat other thousand times . Santo Antao is a unique and special place and it would be a shame not to explore at best what it has to offer, that’s why a local guide is needed. Natcha knows all the ins and outs of the island: the paths, the history, the flora and the fauna. He helped me during the hikes, told me many interesting stories and, best part of all, we could eat a lot of fruits and chew the sugar cane! All kind of kinds that you can't do it without a local. All the hikes were full of positive surprises, meeting and adventures. The landscapes are amazing, food delicious and people are very very kind. I definitely recommend CapeVerde Tours because is a unique and formative experience who gave you adventures and knowledge at once! Thank you, I will never forget it :)
