Parque Historico Guayaquil
Begin your experience at Guayaquil’s Historical Park, one of the city’s most important cultural and ecological attractions. Discover local wildlife, tropical landscapes, and traditional architecture while learning about the history and cultural heritage of Ecuador’s coastal region. Walk through recreated historical buildings that reflect life in old Guayaquil and observe native species including tropical birds, monkeys, and other wildlife found in Ecuador. The park offers a unique combination of nature, history, and local culture in a peaceful natural environment.
Las Penas
Walk through the historic neighborhood of Las Peñas, the oldest area of Guayaquil, known for its preserved wooden houses and artistic atmosphere. You will stroll along cobblestone streets, passing restored traditional homes, local art galleries, and colorful façades that reflect the area’s cultural identity. Some of these houses remain part of long standing family residences, preserving the neighborhood’s living history. The walk continues toward Cerro Santa Ana, historically known as “Cerrito Verde,” considered one of the original settlements where the city began to develop. Yamil and Mattias showed the best hospitality while proving a tour of this city. They gave us the best map of the old and the new Guayaquil within a 3 hour time frame which I know was difficult. I would definitely recommend booking with them.

Yamil was a great guide and offered top-notch service for us here in Guayaquil!! He punctually met and picked us up at our hotel where we then proceeded to go on a historical tour around the area followed by some of the best views and sights the city has to offer, all while explaining the history and significance/relevance of it all. Towards the end of the trip we went to a local shop and learned all about Cocoa and the different varieties as well as got to see how it’s processed from start to finish, and finally we capped the tour with a ceviche masterclass and some homemade hot chocolate he so kindly made with us at his home followed by an amazing local dish his wife prepared to enjoy with us. Definitely an amazing experience that won’t be forgotten!

Excellent historical and cultural tour of Guayaquil It was a very enriching experience to travel Guayaquil through this tour. The explanation about the history of the city was clear, interesting and very well structured, which allowed to better understand its origins, evolution and the cultural importance that it has today. I really liked how local customs and anecdotes were integrated, which made the tour closer and more authentic. A highlight was the local chocolate part: learning about its history, process and relevance in the region was fascinating, especially thanks to the way the guide explained it. You can see the knowledge and vocation of the guide to transmit the information in a clear and entertaining way. Without a doubt, a very complete and recommended tour for those who want to know Guayaquil beyond the superficial.

Yamil is an outstanding tour guide & communicator ahead of our experience! We were running behind because it took awhile to get off the ship. We had a rich enlightening culture experience! Learning about the history of Guayaquil from the indigenous perspective to modern times. The on going commitment to preservation & advances that support people. We learned about Ecuador’s coffee & chocolate from framing to production. Walked through historic sites and went to a wildlife preserve and historical site with a traditional home. A true highlight was a culinary experience in Yamil’s home with his wife Wendy!! We learned about how to prepare ceviche (delicious), has a fish dish with plantains and a peanut and chocolate sauce with rice! The meal was rounded out with a delicious hot chocolate that was not sweet and had vanilla, cinnamon & turmeric it was other worldly! We were moved by the hospitality and cultural exchange! And we felt safe in Guayaquil & it was clean! My husband and I are medical professionals and highly recommend the tour and spending time in Ecuador.

Yamil and Daniel opened our eyes to Guayaquil. An informative and humorous tour contrasting historical and modern parts of the city, a sanctuary for rescued wild animals and culminating in a taste of Ecuadorian cuisine. They shared not only their city but also their hearts.

We were introduced to Simon & Jameel by the Concierge of the Grand Hotel Guayaquil. The Tour was a blast. They were very engaging, and there was commonality ,as my family also originated from Guyana in South America. We felt safe with Simon & Jameel as if they were our family. Lunch was the best. Highly recommended this company.

Simon and Yamil (English translator) were wonderful tour guides. They are passionate about their city and are very knowledgeable. We enjoyed walking las Peñas, going to the cocoa museum, and seeing all the animals at the historic park. We ended the tour with the best meal I’ve had while in Ecuador- sea bass with cocoa and peanut sauce, ceviche, and ice cream with the chocolate sauce. Everything was made from scratch and delicious! Simon and Yamil are very professional and patient. We felt well taken care of the whole time. I would highly recommend this tour for those wanting to explore some of Guayaquil.

Yamil and his English translator Simon were both wonderful humans, they arrived early to pick us up at our hotel and we felt very held and supported by them the whole day. We did the main parts of the tour that were on the brief (las Peñas, Santa Ana, the cacao museum, trying local food and drink) and what I really appreciated is they allowed for flexibility (for example, we didn’t want to climb all 444 steps due to asthma and my aunt’s heavy bag, so we only went up about 150 steps). Yamil clearly cares about the experience of the guests and was very welcoming and supportive. I felt very safe with Yamil and Simon (my aunt and I are visiting from the US and were stopping over in Guayaquil before a yoga retreat in the Galapagos) and we both really felt like we got to experience the culture and the heart of Guayaquil by having them as our tour guides! The treats were lovely, we had coffee with rum and DELICIOUS cacao. And then Yamil even had us over to his magical and lovely house (which is also a nice hostel) where we did a ceviche making experience, had a wonderful meal made by his prima, and then drank some delicious cups of cacao and had beautiful conversation. I also must add that a highlight for me was we got to meet Yamil’s two ADORABLE Yorkies, one of whom (Bimba) has my heart!!!! It was a memorable experience and if I ever get the chance to come back to Ecuador I will definitely be calling on them for help with guidance!
