Batu Caves - Redemption Song (5.10), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I only have good things to say about Eddie Ang and MIR (mountain, ice, rock) Adventures based out of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Eddie is definitely a part of the climbing establishment in KL; he has been guiding since 2010 with total almost twenty years rock climbing experience. The experience shows. Eddie is comfortable in his own skin, exudes calm, is patient, is very competent, and is mature. He's got high-altitude alpine experience (China), knows the rock climbing scene very well in Malaysia (sport & trad), big wall, ice climbing, and offers climbing lessons. Vacationing in Singapore, I wanted another SE Asia climbing experience from an earlier visit. SG's outdoor scene is pretty nonexistent (although they have a number of indoor sites to stay sharp) but KL is a quick hour flight away (at very reasonable prices). I reached out to Eddie, gave him my background, and told him what I was looking for (a half-day, multipitch climb, non-lead, comfort around 5.7 YDS grading). He recommended a three-pitch climb in the 5.9-5.10 range. At first I wondered if he heard me correctly. Haha. The morning of the climb, it rained heavily. I wasn't too phased, and Eddie wasn't either. I've come to realize rock climbing guides are a different breed. They do their jobs day in and day out. Are highly competent and can operate in adverse conditions. Eddie was true to form that morning. Malaysia is all about limestone (my first experience). Yeah... the rock was pocketed and filled with holes ... but it was 'rock' solid (not chalky, flaking, or loose). And there were tons of 'jug'-'luggage' holds! I loved it and felt safe. Granite-igneous climbing - in my limited experience is a lot of foot smears, crack wedging, and tip of fingers holds. Eddie was professional and on point the entire day. He explains things well (strong grasp of English). His calmness rubs off on the climber (yes, the first pitch received most of the rainfall, was slippery, and made me anxious - first time climbing outdoors on wet rock). 73 meters over three pitches is a long way (probably total two hours, two-quarter hours of solid climbing minus the rappel-abseil). I was able to do pitch one clean. Second pitch was not clean for me but still free climbing. Third pitch was out of the question: the 5.10d section was where I was fatigued (I work in an office typing all day and have pole-thin forearms. haha). For a section of the third pitch I engaged in aid climbing reverting to free climbing for the last push to the top. For Eddie, it was all bread and butter; just another 'day at the office' for him. While climbing we talked about 'pushing our envelopes'. Eddie knew that the climbing was beyond my comfort zone, but he read me right in that I do like to challenge myself and improve. In that way, a guide who leads you on a route that is more challenging than what you want is providing you the opportunity to improve. I respect that mindset and completely agree with it. Scenery was nice - urban climbing with a lot of vegetation and KL's Bukit-Hills in the background making for nice vistas. 73 meters is high. The rappelling-abseiling was fun. The rain cooled the air and no issues with mosquitoes that day. The government spent money and resources on the infrastructure at Gua Damai Extreme Park around many of the climbing routes to facilitate the climbing scene - which is nice not having to bushwhack or machete-navigate the approach. There are dozens, hundreds more climbing routes not only in the KL region but in other spots around Malaysia. A climbing enthusiast could spend a good two to three months discovering Malaysia. Eddie's fees were very reasonable. The U.S. dollar is strong and accommodations and food in the KL region are affordable. He was amendable to input and how we spent the day. Great experience. These are the type of experiences that brings a climber and traveler back around for a second pass. I highly recommend Eddie Ang and MIR Adventures to anyone rock climbing in the region. Cheers.

My family took part, but everyone enjoyed it: my 13-year-old son, an almost novice adult, and my 9-year-old daughter. We started with a short beginner route and gradually made it more difficult, climbing five times. The view from the top was amazing, as the last one was quite a climb up! The instructor's brother was very kind but enthusiastic about where to put his hands and feet and everyone was careful to try something a little harder. The video they took with the drone was a good memorial. I'd love to come back again!

Climbing practice has been fine. The monitor very attentive and gives you security. Very nice bulls. The rock gives off a lot of heat and is slippery

I had an awesome experience climbing with the wonderful Ky from Mir Adventures. Booking was easy, Eddie was really responsive and gave great advice on which trip to book based on my climbing experience. The climb at Kura Kura was so beautiful and so much fun, each pitch was different and the limestone was great to climb on. Ky was a great guide, I was very impressed by the safety measures & his encouraging ways of leading. I would 100% recommend this trip and would definitely return.

Eddie and Johnny were great! Both my husband and I have prior climbing experience, and they did a great job of picking routes we'd find fun and interesting! It was a very fun way to pass the morning before visiting Batu Caves. Eddie was kind enough to give us a lift after :)

I had a great time with the half day guided rock climbing! The guide, Peng (not sure i spelled it right) set up 4 easy top rope routes and then let me lead a couple routes once he found out I had experience with outdoor climbing. He was super nice and friendly and we talked a bit about climbing in the area. Afterwards he dropped me off at the nearby Batu Caves. 10/10 would recommend!

This was my first time trying outdoor rock climbing, but thanks to the careful and reassuring support from Eddy and KY, I was able to enjoy it to the fullest. The guides were very accommodating for beginners, providing thorough support during the climb, yet the route was challenging enough to feel a great sense of accomplishment upon reaching the top. The surrounding scenery was breathtaking, and the texture of the rocks and the experience of climbing in nature were a unique and unforgettable experience that cannot be replicated in a gym. I highly recommend this experience to anyone, especially first-timers. I can’t wait to go back and climb again!

It was my first time climbing outside rock, and thanks to the attentive and secure support of Eddie and KY, I was able to enjoy it to the fullest. While there were guides and generous support during the climb that would make a beginner feel safe, it was also a great way to take on the challenge, and the sense of accomplishment when I finished the climb was great. The surrounding scenery is beautiful, the texture of the rocks and climbing in nature are special experiences that you can't find in the gym. I really recommend it for first-timers. I would love to go climbing again!
