After meeting at Himeji Station, we will collect our bicycles and proceed to the shopping street in the castle town. There, we will visit a Japanese sweets shop with a history spanning over 300 years and sample "Tamatsubaki," a refined Japanese confection that was once presented to feudal lords within the castle. We will then explore the magnificent Himeji Castle, also referred to as Shirasagi-jo, meaning "White Egret Castle."

After ascending to the summit of Himeji Castle, we will cycle through the historic castle town and savor a Japanese lunch at a restaurant located in the castle town. We'll then proceed to a shrine that offers picturesque spot for capturing beautiful photographs of Himeji Castle.

Relax and enjoy a cup of tea in Kokoen, a beautiful Daimyo garden.

After exploring the shrine, we will cycle once more around Himeji Castle, heading to the picturesque Kokoen Garden. Following a leisurely cup of tea at a café within the garden, we will make our way back to the station.

The itinerary for this tour includes some locations that are not accessible by a wheelchair or stroller.

Summer in Japan is very hot and humid, so we recommend that you bring water and wear a hat to prevent heat stroke.

There are many stairs inside the castle, so please check if you have companions who are concerned about navigating stairs without an elevator beforehand.

You must remove your shoes upon entering. Please wear shoes that are easy to walk in and remove.

Individuals aged 12 and above can join this cycling tour.

If you're a vegetarian, please note that the lunch options and quantities are limited. (However, we will make every effort to accommodate your needs.) Please contact us by the day before the tour date.

If you have specific dietary restrictions, especially if you're vegan, we may not be able to provide the lunch option for you.

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate gluten-free requests for this tour.

You are not required to cover the cost of the guide's food and drinks.

Please bring cash if you wish to purchase additional snacks and beverages.

Please be aware that if you arrive late, you will not be permitted to join the tour, receive a refund, or reschedule. Please arrive 10 minutes before the tour start time.

Himeji Castle

Explore inside the Castle and learn the history of the castle and the people who used to live there. we will explore the magnificent Himeji Castle, also referred to as Shirasagi-jo, meaning "White Egret Castle." During our visit to Himeji Castle, our local guide will elucidate why the castle is deemed impregnable and renowned for its beauty, providing insights into its architecture, exhibits, and historical significance. Built in the early Edo period, the castle's main buildings, including the castle tower and turrets, are still standing and are designated as national treasures and important cultural properties. In addition, the inner part of the central moat, including the main fortification, is designated as a national special historic site as “Himeji Castle Site. The castle is also on UNESCO's World Heritage List and has been selected as one of the 100 best castles in Japan.

The Himeji Castle Bike Tour was the highlight of my 11 day trip to Japan. Our trip priorities were based on history, culture and food, and this tour was the perfect choice. Our guide, Meri, was great. She provided insights into the castle design features and construction that we would have missed if we went with a self-guided approach. Her knowledge of the Edo period history was also enlightening. Meri's choices for lunch and the Japanese sweets were top-notch. In fact, the lunch was probably one of our best meals on our trip (at least on par with one of our three kaiseki dinners). The 5.5 hour tour went by so fast, but it was definitely worth the day trip from Kyoto.

Chie was a wonderful tour guide! She was high energy, fun and knowledgeable. She really made sure the tour felt personal and showed us real hospitality. Would definitely take a tour with her again!

The most amazing tour I've done! Meri and Ayaka went out of their way to make a wonderful experience for me :) I can’t recommend this tour enough. It's the best option to explore the coolest spots in Himeji and try traditional food.

Fantastic tour! Meri was informative, kind, and patient with my novice bike riding skills. She took us to beautiful sites and taught us a lot about Japanese history and culture. Lunch was amazing too! 10/10 recommend!

This would be one of the best day trips for the entirety of my vacation in Japan. First of all, Chie and MagicalTours were kind enough to proceed even though it was only me (ended up as a private tour). Chie was amazing, a go-getter, full of life and loves to share her knowledge of the area and the history of Japan. We vibed well, surprised she's an anime otaku just like me and we talked on countless animes during the trip. On top of the itinerary, she also taught me Japan cultural tidbits, like how to use the gacha gacha machine and how to pray in a shrine. On the food stops, the Kaeseki lunch was beyond delicious. The freshness and flavour was unparalleled, one of the best I've had in Japan. Chie explained the clever design and misdirections done on Himeji Castle to distract invaders - in this case, we were the invaders but good thing she knew her way around. She was also kind enough to take photos, and these were great photos. Thank you Chie and the MagicalTours team, I am very satisfied with the experience.

Take was an incredible guide! We really enjoyed biking around and his deep knowledge of the history of the castle. All the food was amazing too. Despite the heat in June we had a fabulous day!
