The Halifax Farmers Market was created by Royal Proclamation in June of 1750, a year after the founding of Halifax. The Governor and Council designated a site for the Market – the present day Bank of Montreal building. For 50 years this flesh, meat or cattle market, as it was known, sold produce as well as livestock delivered from Acadian farms in the Annapolis Valley and from local farm production. In 1848 the City of Halifax was incorporated and the original City Charter conveyed the Country Market property to the city “for the public and common benefit and use of the City of Halifax according to the true interest and meaning of the original grant.” The Market has operated in several locations across the city since its inception in 1750, but moved to the Halifax Seaport in 2010 where it is now known as the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market – the longest continuously running Market in North America and proudly hosting over 250 vendors!

5.00A very informative tour. Paul is a great guide. Very good communicator and very knowledgeable about Halifax. He takes you to the major attractions but also some places that are historically important but not a touristy. Comfortable van. You get back to the ship with time to spare. I would strongly recommend this tour.

5.00Good organization, very good travel companion with extensive information and explanations. The private tour over 6 hours with Paul was absolutely engaging. Even though we are in Halifax for the second time, we were able to gain many new experiences about the city's history.

5.00Paul sent a message letting us know where he was parked, which was right outside the cruise terminal. He packed in a lot of great information. He took us to significant historical sites and provided context for what we saw. The lunch spot was very scenic. The van is spacious and you can even stand up inside, no issue.

5.00Paul was amazing. He is extremely knowledgeable of Halifax and has a passion for his city. I went with 3 friends to Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. We had a fabulous time. Paul recommended a restaurant and the lobster roll was the best ever. I would highly recommend Paul for a tour of Halifax. Thanks Paul for a memorable experience.

5.00If you’re ever going to do anything when you first arrive to Halifax, it’s this tour. We arrived Friday via Paul’s car service and the experience was so pleasant. Clean car, was waiting for us when our plane arrived and confirmations via text. The next day we did the tour. We saw and learned so much. Also gave us a complete lay of the land which enabled us to plan out the rest of our week. We saw and learned all about Halifax and Dartmouth. We got great restaurant and landmark suggestions. He even brought us to a great seafood place for lunch. I highly recommend this tour. My husband is a history buff and talked about all the things he learned all week. Can’t wait to go back and take another tour with this company. Also highly recommend their airport to hotel car service.

Paul McNell went above and beyond, even returning a forgotten purse after hours and adjusting a tour when I felt unwell. He is incredibly knowledgeable, uses great videos to enhance the experience, and even added a special military museum stop for my husband. 10/10 experience!"

5.00At first we weren’t planning to do any tours but as we walked around the city we could tell there more to the city than just beautiful buildings and views. We are so glad we took this tour. Paul (aka God Father of Nova Scotia) knows everything about Halifax, it’s forgotten history that many locals don’t even know and after the tour we had such an appreciation for the city, the people and culture. Highly recommend you take this tour with Paul!
