Montserrat
Montserrat is a mountain top monastery situated on top of an unusual rock mountain. It is the highest point of the Catalan lowlands. Montserrat monastery hosts “la Moreneta”, also called Black Madonna. The legend says that the benedictine monks found the statue, and they could not move the statue to build their monastery, so they decided to construct it around the statue. Montserrat was designated as a National Park in 1987. Nowadays, it is a site of pilgrimage of people around the world. Once in Montserrat, enjoy 45 minutes guided tour, and then you will have 2 hours to explore. You can visit la Moreneta, enter the Museum, taste the monastery’s homemade liquor, go for an easy walk.

The origin of the monastery is uncertain, but it is believed that the Virgin of Monsterrat (la Moreneta) was found around 880. According to the legends, the monks build the monastery around the statue. The monastery still functions to this day with over 70 monks. The basilica of Montserrat began its construction in the 16th century and now houses an art museum. It is also the place where la Escolania, one of the oldest Boys’ Choir in Europe, performs during religious ceremonies.

5.00Vincenzo was an excellent guide. His knowledge of Catalonia and Monserrat is extensive. The tour included a driver and Vincenzo both of which were excellent. My son had a broken foot with limited mobility and both Vincenzo and the driver were very helpful. Montserrat is a very special place. Do not miss it if you are in Barcelona. I highly recommend this tour and highly recommend Vincenzo.

5.00Brian was amazing! Our very entertaining history lesson was enjoyable and made our travel time seem much shorter. Montserrat was a not to miss tour and Brian knows it well and was very helpful in making sure we experienced what we wanted.

5.00Montserrat was amazing but our tour guide Brian was the highlight of the tour. He had props, wigs and even sang songs. His history lesson of Barcelona was the most entertaining history lesson I’ve ever had.

5.00We absolutely loved our guide and our day!! Roberto discussed the history of Barca and brought the past and present to life. He was very knowledgeable about Monsterrat and was a pleasure to spend the day with. He is a major asset to the company. We are a family of 8 very different people and we all loved him!! Warm, funny and easy to get along with. That is not an easy task. The 1/2 day trip was fantastic and getting outside the city was well worth it. 5 stars and a great trip.
