Caldeira das Sete Cidades
Explore on a 4x4 vehicle the nature that surrounds the crater of Sete Cidades. according to the legend – seven towns, founded by expelled Spanish bishops, sank. With a perimeter of 12 km and a diameter of 7 km, this caldera formed from a crater that collapsed during a gigantic prehistoric eruption, its present shape having been created during a tremendous eruption in 1445.

5.00Excellent guide! Miguel is super knowledgeable and friendly. He went above and beyond. I forgot my sunglasses in his vehicle and he even returned them to me the next day! He took his time showing us all the highlights and giving us insight to every question we had. 10/10

5.00When we took our tour with T4W, we had the honor of being guided by one of the owners, Delfim. On our half-day tour, he took us down a number of roads that rental car companies would cry about, but gave us a different view of a number of places on the island that I doubt we would've ever gone to. Our tour focused on Sete Cidades, which we were able to see from basically all sides and from down at the lakeside as well. He was very knowledgeable about the island and the sites we visited and we wish that we had the time to book him for a full day tour just to see everything else he wanted to show us. 100% recommend!

5.00Fantastic tour. If you get Margarete as driver / guide / commentator your are in for an incredible trip. She is local and shares the physical and social history of the area with grace and knowledge. Very informative and fun. The equipment are 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers that are comfortable and safe. We were extremely lucky with weather going from cloudy to sunshine to sunsets. Fantastic. A definite recommend

5.00Overall, the tour was well managed. We had 4 in our party. The vehicle could fit 6 but it would have been tight. Our tour guide Jose, was very knowledgeable and took time to explain about what we were seeing. He offered to stop as often as we needed to sight-see. We had a good 4-hour tour. We arrived on a foggy day, so Jose gave us a choice of where to visit. We choose the Sete Cidades route as planned. At points, especially in the mountain’s visibility was limited. We were unable to visit the King’s View, which is the view you see in most travel sites. As it turns out it is often foggy in so you will be lucky if you get this view. Some of the drive is over very rough terrain. While we were in a 4x4 vehicle, if you have motion issues or pain trouble, I suggest you avoid this tour. The one down side to our tour, is that there was no one waiting for us at the cruise terminal. There was a dozen of other people with signs but not us. I had to call the number provided, and they said that they had no record of our booking. This surprised me as Viator had given sent me a confirmation code that very morning. As it turns out the scheduling person for the tour screwed things up, but 15 minutes after our call Jose picked us up and we started our tour.
