Bukchon Hanok Village
Bukchon Hanok Village, nestled between the historic Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung Palaces, offers a precious glimpse into Korea's past. This 600-year-old village, dating back to the Joseon Dynasty, comprises hundreds of hanoks (traditional Korean houses) that once housed high-ranking officials and nobility. Today, Bukchon, meaning "Northern Village," remains a vibrant residential area where these traditional homes have been repurposed into tea houses, restaurants, cultural centers, and guesthouses. On the Hanok Village Tour, you'll wander through narrow alleys, experiencing the authentic architecture and lifestyle preserved over centuries. Each hanok provides a unique peek into traditional Korean culture, making Bukchon a living museum where visitors are encouraged to interact with history respectfully, remembering that it is also a community where people live.

I booked this tour because I wanted to tour the traditional Korean village and my husband wanted to do Seoul Tower. The tour is billed as top 3 tourist sites. The site is listed as a park. We were told we would be picked up at 8:50 am. The tour guide was early which I had no problem with but we were finishing our coffee and breakfast so it caught us off guard. When we got on the bus, the tour guide kept mentioning the Ginseng Museum and lunch which was not part of the listed itinerary we thought we purchased. I was confused why the museum and lunch kept being mentioned but we didn't want to be rude so just kind of went with it. We picked up another couple who were very nice before touring the village. The couple had purchased an all day tour. The tour of the village was nice and the guide was very knowledgeable. My husband and I did feel a little uncomfortable at one point when she had us peer in someone’s backyard as these are private residences that people live in. The other issue is that the tour guide often took off walking and this area was very hilly. My husband has bad knees which makes it hard to go down steep hills fast and we had to catch up with the guide a couple of times. The next stop was N. Seoul Tower. At the first stop, my husband mentioned he has to use the toilet. When we got there, we were told we were not actually going up in the tower. I could have missed this in the description but in the list of the these activities, it did. It say we were not going up in the tour. When we got there, we were rushed to get to the cable car even though my husband had mentioned he did have to use the toilet. When we got to the cable car, we were told we walked too slow by the guide because we missed that cable car. My husband asked about the toilet and had to go back down to the toilet. We asked about going up in the tower several times but told no. The tour guide finally told my husband he could go up but at that point, we decided against it due to time. It would be nice if it was listed in the description that you do not get to go up. I will say that the views were amazing. The tour guide then wanted to go to lunch at about 11:00 am. The other couple had lunch included with their tour with the full day. We did not and it was indicated as a “stop” on the tour. The other couple indicated they were not ready for lunch so the tour guide told us that we would be dropped off at a restaurant for lunch by ourselves and then she would take the other couple to another stop on their tour. Given we did not expect to go to lunch given the description of the tour we booked and we had to pay for our lunch ourselves, we just asked to be dropped off early. Normally, I wouldn’t mind but this seemed like an expensive tour for what we got. I don’t know if the confusion about stops, etc, came because they combined our tour with a full day tour or not but I was just somewhat disappointed in the situation given what was sold and what was going to be given.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour, and Amy was so nice and accommodating. This turned out to be a private tour, and it felt like Amy was more of a friend showing us around than a tour guide. I highly recommend this tour with Amy.

We had a fantastic time on this tour. Cindy was our tour guide and she was the best ever! She met us at our hotel, right on time. She is very nice, friendly and knowledgeable, she made our tour very enjoyable. We found out that our family of 3 were the only ones for booked for his tour for the day. We arrived at our first stop Cheonggye Stream and we stopped at The Bukchon Hanok Village , Cindy explained us some very interesting Korean history. I cannot say enough good things about her!!! I highly recommend this tour. Thanks again Cindy for everything!
