Grand Pre National Historic Site
Grand-Pré is a powerful monument that unites the Acadian people. Visitors to the site will uncover the tale of Le Grand Dérangement: a tragic event in Acadian history that has shaped the vibrant culture of modern-day Acadians across the globe through its quiet but powerful renaissance. The site commemorates the Grand Pré area as a centre of Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755 and the Deportation of the Acadians, which began in 1755 and continued until 1762. For many Acadians throughout the world, the site remains the heart of their ancestral homeland and the symbol of the ties that unite them to this day..**There is a fee to visit Museum but no fee to see Church and he legendary statue of Evangeline (heroine of the Longfellow poem) and the Memorial Church**
From the View Park, on Old Post Road, you gaze over the 1,300-hectares of farm-fields, marshes and dykelands that comprise the Landscape of Grand-Pré. Discover the deep human story within this land. A vast panorama gives life to the efforts of industrious Acadians, who, in the 1680s, overcame geographic challenges and the world’s highest tides to foster thriving settlements. Their ingenious system of dykes remained a technological zenith for hundreds of years—expanded and maintained by English, Scottish and Dutch settlers until the mid-20th century—and combined with a tumultuous regional history, led to the area’s designation as Canada’s 16th UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also rich in Mi’kmaw tradition, dramatic Cape Blomidon—which frames the dykelands—is said to harbour the spirit of the mythical watchman Kluscap, another facet of this culturally and naturally diverse landscape.

Had a great time on this tour. Went deeper into the Arcadian history. Enjoyed incredible scenery of Nova Scotia's agricultural life. Tasted delicious wine, cheeses and ice-cream. Always having special photo sites/spots, thanks to Paul. This was my 3rd tour with amazing/knowledgeable and warm tour guide Paul, from Half day Tours. Did the Half day Historic one (learned what has shaped the contemporary Nova Scotia's people). Did the Half day Peggy's Cove/Lunenburg, learned more about Nova Scotia's culture. Highly recommend the 3 tours and Paul's unique, professional, passionate and warm guide. Another thing to point out is that groups are small and bus is very comfortable.

It was perfect! I loved the onboard films. They were informative and made the travel time fly by. Paul was extremely knowledgeable about the areas and the sites we visited. His introductory question when we got on the bus asking us where we were from helped our group bond Paul was thoughtful and considerate. I definitely would recommend any of Paul’s tours.

We had back 2 back cruises so had 2 stops in Halifax. We toured with Paul to the Annapolis Valley and also on the historic Halifax tour. We truly enjoyed our tours. Paul is very responsive to email or text or call and met us right across from the ship at Pier 22. We learned so much about Halifax and the surrounding area and its history as well as Titanic history as a bonus. The van was comfortable and the lunch stops were local restaurants and so good. The 2 winery stops in Annaoplis were so different ( one large and more formal and the other a family owned and run establishment with individual selections based on personal wine preferences) but we liked them both. You cant go wrong booking with Paul.

Paul really knew the best places in the area to visit. He was happy to give me some extra time at Grand-Pré when I mentioned I’m Acadian. He took us to Halls Harbor at just the right time to walk on the sea bed while the tide was out. He also had some fun short videos about local history for us to watch while on the way. The first winery he took us to was so much fun and felt like a personal wine tour. Lucketts was also fun to visit. I liked the way Paul’s tour focused on seeing the beautiful landscape and on smaller venues that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise, as well as the main stops.

Paul was a great tour guide. very informative. Also on the long drive to the valley he had videos pertaining to where we were going, so we got a history from him and then watched an in depth version. Very accomodating and great day. Highly reccomend.

Paul, our guide delivered an amazing tour of the Annapolis Valley! He supplied us with lots of information about Halifax and each area we visited! We stopped to see the views of the Bay of Fundy and then got a closer look when we visited Halls Harbour! Lunch at Halls Harbour Lobster Pound was delicious! The gelato and wine tasting stops were great! The Church Street Winery created a personal tasting for all members of the tour! You can tell Paul enjoys his job and sharing his knowledge!
