Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
While most of the visit will be spent here! We will cover all popular stops with commentary. The following areas will be visited: Volcano House, Visitor Center, Kilauea overlook of the Halemaumau Crater, steam vents and sulfur dioxide banks, Kilauea Iki Crater, Laumanu Crater and Nahuku lava tube.
Hilo Farmers Market
The largest and locally grown vegetables and fruits are available in Hilo Farmers market that is conveniently located in the Historical Hilo Town. Guests are given an hour for lunch in this area full of restaurants and local shops.

5.00Epic tour, honestly cant recommend this tour guide and expereince enough. Justin went above and beyond to make everyone's expereince amazing. I had a unforggetble time. Justin is a fun, funny and chrismastic dude who knows the big island well. He went above and beyond to make sure our group and me and my sister had a amazing unforgettable adventure. If I could give more then a 5 star I would.

5.00If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!!!! Justin is an owner/operator run tour and he went above and beyond to give us the BEST experience. We were blessed to be there when the volcano was erupting, and he tried to do all he could to give us the best views. He even provided N-95 masks, so we wouldn’t get any of the volcanic dust in our lungs. The 14 passenger bus was VERY well kept too. Skip the big charter bus experience and book with Makaio Tours!!!!!

5.00This tour is run by Justin, who is not only very entertaining but very knowledgeable. We were lucky enough to see Kilauea erupt and Justin was even prepared for that! You'll be in great hands and laugh a lot while seeing amazing sites. His tour is highly recommended!

5.00Our Volcano and Hilo sites tour with Makaio Tours was the highlight of our trip. Our guide, Justin, was outstanding. Justin is incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much about the island’s culture, history, and geology throughout the day. Every stop felt intentional and thoughtfully planned. What made the tour truly special was how personal the experience felt. Justin consistently had our best interests in mind, making sure we were comfortable and getting the most out of each stop. It never felt like a typical tour—it felt like spending the day with someone who genuinely loves the island and enjoys sharing it with others. By the end of the day, we felt like part of the ohana. Without question, this was the best tour I’ve ever been on, and I would highly recommend Makaio Tours to anyone visiting the Big Island. 🌋🌺

5.00We had an amazing time on our volcanoes waterfalls and beaches tour in Hilo with Justin. He made the entire day fun, relaxed, and full of great energy. Justin shared interesting and enjoyable information about every place we visited and you could tell he really loves what he does. We got to see beautiful, waterfalls stunning beaches, volcanoes, and even spotted turtles at a few different locations. The whole experience felt well paced, informative, and memorable from start to finish. Overall it was a wonderful tour in Hilo with a fantastic guide. We would definitely recommend Justin to anyone visiting the area and wanting a great experience.

5.00An experience of a lifetime! We got to see the volcano erupt and then had to evacuate due to all of the lava rock falling from the sky. So wild! Justin was an amazing tour guide who even provided masks for us to wear, so we wouldn’t get sick from the fallen debris from the volcano! His bus was so nice and clean. We went to Rainbow Falls, had lunch at the Hilo farmers market, saw the amazing Banyan tree that was over 600 years old, stopped for a treat at Big Candies, went down into a cave to see a lava tube and saw lots of turtles at Richardson Ocean Park! He communicated well and made sure we got back to our cruise ship in plenty of time!

5.00Justin was amazing! The van was extremely clean, and he provided a safe, smooth ride the entire time. He also shared great information along the way and made sure everyone in the group felt included. It really felt like a unique experience rather than just a ride. Highly recommend!

There are many tour guides available on the big island, however if you want a first class experience with detailed information/ history and a healthy dose of humor, Makaio Tours is your place to book a tour.
