HERZEG`S THRONE ADVENTURES The first station of this historical Herzeg`s throne adventures is Stolac(necropolis Radimlja, old town Vidoški) than we visit, waterfall “Koćuša”. The necropolis on Radimlja is the best-known site in Herzegovina containing stećci, the medieval tombstones. It is located 3 km west of Stolac, along the Stolac – Čapljina road, in Vidovo polje, near Paprati village. The necropolis is among the most valuable monuments of the medieval period in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The characteristics underlining its value are a large number of samples, variety, and representativeness of all basic forms, the relatively high artistic quality of work, variety of plastic ornaments, reliefs and titles mentioning historical personalities, as well as its availability and location.
The old city of Vidoški in Stolac was founded in the fifth and sixth century, during the time of the Byzantine emperor Constantine, who built a fort in Stolac with the aim of protecting his commercial caravans that went from the west to the east, towards the former Byzantium. After Constantine, the city was abandoned, until the arrival of Slavs in the eighth and ninth century, and in the 14th and 15th century during the time of Stjepan Kosača, it experienced medieval flourishing. The Ottomans conquered the city in 1471 and then it got today’s contours with all the fortresses, walls and towers. In the 17th century, the city had 13 towers and was the best-fortified city in Herzegovina.
