This hike is pretty difficult. It’s a steep climb up and along the trail the hose vendors follow you up. You’re stepping on horse poop and slippery rocks. I would recommend getting a horse and don’t pay the driver! He charges a commission, you can pay the horse vendor directly and it’s $250 up or $350 for both ways. Entry fee to the volcano is $100. The views are amazing, do the 6am hike as the weather is really unpredictable and you can’t see anything if it’s cloudy or it’s raining. It’s fairly cool so bring a jacket or dress warm. There are also a lot of mosquitoes on the trail. At the top the lava isn’t hot or really steaming- your marshmallow doesn’t actually “cook” it gets slightly warm to the touch only.

We loved going up to the volcano, it is two hours of climbing and two of descending, it is not complicated if you have previously walked by mountain, also the guide was excellent.

My sisters and I had an amazing time. The guide was very friendly, patient when some of the group needed to take a break, and very friendly! It was a great experience!

The place is very beautiful and in the means of transport we were taken was very good. Now, they took us the hard way (there being a simpler one) and hastily, it was noticed that it was for people to give in to rent the horse. That left a tasteless feeling in many of us who attended. It was a pity because the experience itself was beautiful.

I did the Pacaya Volcano hike today and absolutely loved it. The trail was around 8km round trip. It was definitely a workout, especially on the incline, but totally doable for most fitness levels. One of the highlights was getting to “roast” marshmallows over volcanic heat. It was more like steam than fire, but still a fun and unique experience. The views were absolutely breathtaking.
