This experience was my first brush with hiking of any kind , and i have less than optimal fitness and stamina , I couldnt have asked for a better guide than Bryn , the man is a certofied legend and propbably half mountain goat himself . His smile and gentle trust and running commentery while we were climbing made this climb that was difficult to me manageble . He and the group were patient with me and after we finally reached the summit the feeling is incomparable , the natural beauty the serenity of reaching that spot the joint joy woth the group , This motovated me to work on my stamina more so i can repeat this and do similar things in future. Notes Bryn is a legendary gentelman and i believe being woth him during the climb is essential , not only is he well verse in every life form on the mountain he is geniunly passionate about preserving it. If you dont find a reservation it is worth trying again just to catch this man. Good climbing shows with great grip , running shoes wont do Make sure you hydrate well , eat something light but rich in carbs and electrolytes There are the scrambling sections ,they are doable take your time bryn will guide your footing . Control your breathing and pace yourself . No matter what make sure you enjoy this experience .

Bryn, whose family owns the mountain and surrounding estate, and who must have every Boy Scout badge available , must surely be the best way to tackle the mountain. Sure we had to arrive at a remote gate at 4.40am in the dark ready for a 5am start to the hike , but as Bryn had explained in full and demonstrated later there is a very good reason for this - the searing heat of the mountain once the sun comes up. With everyone assembled we clambered into his pick up truck - women seated inside , men on the flat bed at the back for a slow and bumpy but exhilarating ride up to the start where we saw many deer in the headlights along the way. The hike commenced with a gentle hike upwards through undergrowth and woodland until we reached the bottom of the first of four pitches where hands on climbing and scrambling would be required . The first near vertical pitch of 75m was the hardest and longest but once the lower reaches were mastered with the professional help and guidance of Bryn, the rest fell into place . A couple of women chose not to climb so stayed put and waited for the group to return from the summit. Along the way and at the summit Bryn unleashed his panoramic photo skills which we received links to later that day. Watching first light and the sun rise around 6.10am throughout the climb was amazing as were the views all around from the summit. At this point the temperature had reached 37C due as Bryn had explained to the volcanic rock absorbing the heat from the sun and then reflecting it back again . This made for a very sweaty descent and pity for those on other tours or self guided who were on their way up. Many of those seemed unprepared without water or climbing the rocks in the wrong place (one party were starting to climb on the slippery wet side until Bryn very diplomatically corrected them). Bryn also pointed out that as a level 3 climb , most travel insurance by default would exclude this activity . We hadn’t checked ours because we didn’t realise in advance the level of climbing involved , so were then reassured that there was some insurance included in Bryn’s fee. We arrived back at our car just after 10am , having taken around 2 hours on the ascent , around an hour at the top and a little less time on the hot descent . Me aside , we were in a relatively young party and made swift progress , although at no time were we rushed by Bryn. He was the ultimate professional throughout, clearly well trained and prepared to lead this activity as well as being very patient , supportive and encouraging to a mixed group that he was leading for the first time . Given he owns the land , he is the only tour guide able to offer a private back door into the estate and make the ascent in the reasonably comfortable early morning temperatures. He has a 5 star rating and hundreds of hugely positive reviews for a reason . Why go anywhere else ?

I had a lovely hike to the amazing Le Morne mountain. An amazing time that will forever be on my mind! Bryn is, without any doubt, the best option to do this hike, I contacted him per email and everything went perfect! Picked me up from the Hotel at Le Morne. He gave us a lot of information about the mountain and also about Mauritius. He also took a lot of pictures from us and made everything to assure us the best experience! Many thanks Bryn James! Hope to see you again soon!!

This was an incredible experience, guided by one of the most passionate individuals that I’ve ever met! I couldn’t think of a better way to learn and explore the history of such an important part of Mauritius! Thank you Bryn!

We could not have asked for a better hiking experience than we had with Bryn. We didn't actually know in advance that his family own the land around the mountain and work hard to ensure its sustainability year round, not to mention that Bryn is an extremely experienced and qualified mountaineer and spends some of his 'free time' providing mountainside assistance for those in need. Bryn is exceptionally passionate and delighted in sharing the history and details about local flora & fauna with us. He also took some fantastic photos of our group which we'll treasure. If you're looking for a guide for this trip, look no further that Explorers Mauritius; you're in incredibly safe hands.

I did the Le Morne course this Sunday 13 January with Bryn as my guide. Physically and climbing, Bryn is professional and competent. I was reassured during the slippery and peaky passages, he does not hesitate to help you position your feet. On the other hand, HUGE cultural DISAPPOINTMENT. The guide is not a Mauritian and has lived there for 20 years, talking constantly about the Mauritian government criticizing it and the Mauritians. It is heavy and painful for the tourist who did not come here for that. Moreover, he completely denies the history of Le Morne (slavery, browning) and discloses false information to preserve his personal interests. This aspect disgusted me, next time I will make sure to take a LOCAL guide even if less trained in mountain rescue, or hike the public trail simply.

We had a magical moment thanks to Bryn’s professionalism. He knew how to reassure us, explain us to pass the 4 climbing passages (always with 3 grip points, 2 hands and 1 foot or 1 hand and 2 feet). We were surprised to leave at 5am but we understood why... the heat is quickly unbearable in this summer period. The hike is splendid and the view too. In the afternoon, he sent us beautiful photos and a top video! We recommend 100% Thanks again Bryn and maybe see you soon for another hike.
