We met with our guide, Mutsuko Nishimoto “Nishi” at the Himeji train station right on time. Nishi is a native of Himeji and shared stories of her life in the area. First stop was building with a great view of Himeji Castle. Not many tourists there, so I’m guessing it it not a well known spot. So this was a bonus for us. Next Himeji Castle, Nishi provided a well-paced tour through the castle area and the castle itself, providing history facts and pointing out details that we would have absolutely missed if we had done this on our own. After a great local lunch, we headed to Mt. Shosha and the Engyoji Temple. Because I was healing from an ankle injury, Nishi wisely recommended the bus option at the temple. She was even able to tell of her experience of working on the filming of “The Last Samurai.“. I would definitely recommend this tour and we were so fortunate to have Nishi as our guide.

Rie (Ree-Aye) was awesome and gave the best tour of Himeji Castle and Mount Shosha! English was awesome and she took us to the best little restaurant that served Okonomiyaki which was amazing (new favorite Japanese food)! Highly recommend this tour and Rie :)
