Hiroshimagokoku Shrine
Visitors begin their experience at Hiroshima Gogoku Shrine by exploring its elegant architecture and tranquil surroundings. Originally established to enshrine the protective deities of Hiroshima domain, the shrine now also serves as a place of solace and remembrance for those affected by historical events.
Hiroshima Castle
Hiroshima Castle, also known as Carp Castle, is a historic landmark in Hiroshima, Japan. Originally constructed in the 1590s, it served as the home of the daimyō (feudal lord) of the Hiroshima han (domain). The castle was an important military and administrative center until it was destroyed by the atomic bomb in 1945. It has since been reconstructed and now functions as a museum that offers insights into Hiroshima's history, Japanese feudal architecture, and the samurai culture of the Edo period. The castle's grounds, surrounded by a moat and lush gardens, provide a scenic walk and a peaceful retreat from the modern city surrounding it.

We loved our tour with Chisa. She spoke excellent English and was passionate about her city and its past. She was engaged with the people in the tour and was willing to answer questions. She gave an excellent overview of WW2 with some handy presentation aids that kept us engaged. We loved her personal stories and found her dedication to sharing her message of peace really meaningful.

Our guide was very knowledgeable about everything we saw! From the founding of Hiroshima, to the atomic bomb, she was able to answer all of my questions.

Very informative, lovely guide! It was 33° and the Emperor was in town so the walk route was modified slightly to accommodate both. Thoroughly enjoyed nonetheless and would recommend 10/10

Emi was an awesome guide, so up beat and energetic, but solemn and thoughtful when addressing some really heavy topics. It would be a difficult story to tell, and she did it amazingly. It's not just about the bomb, we talked right back to samurai times and saw the castle and shrine too. We also got activity and food recommendations which was really helpful

Easy pace. Good amount of information without being overwhelming. I have a much more nuanced understanding of Japan’s role in WWII and their thoughts about the atomic bomb.
