This tour is done by a small team of 4 historians that want to make people aware of how fast things can change! Learn about the origins and early years of Hitler on a 2.5-hour walking tour of historic Vienna. On this tour, you will hear the History of Austria and Europe from 1900 until 1955. Alongside your guide, you'll find out the answer to the following questions: How did an Austrian postcard painter turn into the world’s most hated man? Where could Hitler and Stalin have met? Plus, you'll see the scars of World War II and visit the only synagogue to survive the Holocaust. Take a deeper look into the darkest days of Vienna’s history.

On May 25, 1869, the opening was celebrated in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth with a premiere of Don Juan by Mozart. But than after 1938 everything changed including the cultural life in Vienna changed.After the "Anschluss" of Austria, Adolf Hitler visited the State Opera on June 19 and October 27, 1938. The period of National Socialism saw the departure, persecution and murder of artists and employees. For several works there was a ban on performance.

Memorial Against War & Fascism

The Memorial against War and Fascism is the work of Austrian sculptor Alfred Hrdlicka. It has stood since 1988 on Vienna's Albertinaplatz - named after Helmut Zilk in 2009. The memorial it is intended to serve as a reminder of the darkest era in Austrian history. It is dedicated to all victims of war and fascism.

We walk among this history, but would have missed the story without the help of tour guide Siggy, whose knowledge and in depth narrative brought it to life for us on this tour! Between her anecdotes, facts shared from her own experiences and travels, photos she shared with our group, and insights from those she knew, Siggy was such an incredible story teller and guide! We visited so many places around Vienna, including areas of town, notable monuments, churches, walkways… all with a story, and with Siggy as their voice! At our visit to the Art Institute, where she showed us Hitler’s artwork, I couldn’t help but wonder if only his attempts at entry were successful, how the course of the world might have changed! Siggy was so knowledgeable, invited questions, and built our tour around our interests. Truly a gem - I think the best guide through history we’ve ever had. Thank you, Siggy, for this amazing experience!

Deter (hopefully I have spelt this correctly) was extremely informative and passionate. The time went so quickly, and I really felt the information stayed so tightly to Vienna / Austria which I really valued. He took care of his guests so well.

Deter was very thoughtful when speaking about Hitler. He entertained all questions! He was quite enjoyable. I would 12/10 recommend his tour.
Left behind by the guide

Very disappointed the guide left the meeting spot at such speed we were left behind! Guide made no attempt to check we were following or would have noticed we were left behind. As the tour meets at a very busy spot the guide should be holding something (like an umbrella) so that you know who they are and you can follow them.
I feel much more knowledgeable now!

Very informative tour. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and spoke so clearly and engagingly that you genuinely wanted to listen to every word. But word of warning is that not much to see.
