Ham Rong Mountain
Starting from Sapa Central, travelers set out on foot toward Ham Rong Mountain, one of the most scenic viewpoints overlooking the town. The trail climbs gradually, revealing panoramic views of Sapa, Muong Hoa Valley, and the surrounding mountain ranges. Along the way, guests walk through rocky paths, garden areas, and quiet forest sections, with time to stop for photos and fresh mountain air. From Ham Rong, the trek continues along peaceful local trails, descending through terraced rice fields and hillside farmland. The route offers a smooth transition from the lively town center into calm highland landscapes, combining light adventure, natural scenery, and an authentic outdoor experience close to Sapa.
From the mountain slopes, the trail descends gently toward Sa Seng Village, leading travelers through scenic rice terraces and shaded forest paths. The landscape gradually opens into farmland and hillside fields, offering peaceful views of the valley below. Upon arrival in Sa Seng, a traditional Black Hmong village, guests have time to walk through the village paths, observe daily life, and learn about local customs and traditional houses. This part of the trek offers a slower pace and a closer cultural connection, allowing travelers to experience the rhythm of village life while surrounded by quiet highland scenery.

Meeting the local Hmong families was a deeply memorable part of the entire day. The home-cooked lunch we enjoyed in a small mountain hamlet was absolutely delicious. It felt like such an authentic experience to share food in that peaceful setting. We also got to see ancient stone carvings, which added an interesting piece of history.

Trekking 11 km on the first day through the rice terraces and forest paths was challenging but rewarding. The view of the Muong Hoa valley from the trail is something you have to see to believe.

We loved visiting Sa Seng and Hang Da villages—it was so peaceful and far from the crowds. The best part was the home-cooked lunch with a local Hmong family on the first day; the food was fresh and delicious. Learning about Black Hmong traditions directly from the villagers in Hau Chu Ngai was something I’ll never forget. A must-do for culture seekers!

I chose the 2-day option (18 km), and it was the highlight of my Vietnam trip. Trekking from Hau Chu Ngai to the Ancient Stone Gallery felt like stepping back in time. The views from Ham Rong Mountain at the start are absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommend if you want to see the real highlands!
