Enjoy a magical 6-6.5 hour tour to the Hobbiton Movie set, used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film series, which has made NZ famous.
Leaving the port, we first travel past the stunning beaches of Mount Maunganui, a top NZ holiday destination, across the harbor bridge and into the country, over the Kaimai mountain ranges, into the lush farming district of the Waikato, the location of Hobbiton.
At Hobbiton you can visit the Shires Rest Cafe, browse the souvenir shop or just take in the stunning views before joining the 2.5 hour guided tour, explore inside a Hobbit home and finish at The Green Dragon Pub with a complimentary Ale.
As Cruise ship arrival times varies so much, we adjust the start time to suit, which we confirm to you when your booking is accepted, always having you back at the ship in good time for its departure.
Please see the Additional Info section for details of our cancellation policy should the ship cancel its port of call within 24 hours of arrival.

A rain jacket and layers are recommended
We adjust the tour start and end time to suit the ships time in port, which varies greatley
This tour operates only for cruise ships passengers visiting Tauranga
If the ship cancels its port of call within the 24 hour notice period, we will offer you a partial refund of the tour cost, adult refund is $160 NZ, youth refund is $150 NZ and a child refund is $140. We cannot offer a 100% refund as the Hobbiton Movie set does not offer any refund in such circumstances.
The tour will operate with a minimum of 4 people.

We visit the World famous Movie set as used in both the Lord Of The Rings and the Hobbit movie trilogies. Your guide will lead you round the extensive movie set, showing you many of the Hobbit Holes before ending at the Green Dragon pub where you will receive a complimentary mug of ale.

5.00Pickup was flawless and easy. We left on time and made a few interesting stops on the way and the way back from Hobbiton. Hobbiton was a fantastic experience. It does transport you into the magical realm of Middle-earth. Well worth the trip.

5.00Being huge Tolkien fans this was an extremely rewarding adventure! Our tour guide (Dom) was exceptional, he was very knowledgeable about everything and very personable! He kept the group moving but gave all of us the time we needed. We highly recommend this tour to any and all fans. The attention to details is amazing! Thank you!!

5.00Very well organised. Met at the end of the pier and driven to the Hobbiton set by a driver who had a good sense of humour and provided an interesting commentary. The experience at Hobbiton was fabulous. Lovely guide who gave us lots of information and allowed plenty of time to take photos. Would highly recommend.

5.00Visiting Hobbiton was a highlight of our trip 'down under'. We had the most wonderful day starting with our tour operator, well organised, and very informative during our journey to Hobbiton. Whilst there, a place most magical. You have to see it to believe it. Highly recommended

5.00Sorry for.the late response. The tour was excellent. Our bus driver (I believe his name was Peter) was very informative, pointing out & detailing many interesting sights along the route to Hobbiton. Upon arriving he’d provided specific information regarding logistics for meeting back at the bus, bathrooms , etc. The day had perfect weather that made for a spectacular visit. On our return trip he provided a scenic stop for an incredible vista. We highly recommend this tour. Well done Viator. Michael & Cheryl

5.00Haven’t read the books or seen the films then don’t worry, this place is awesome and you’ll be entranced by the scenery. The tour guide taking us to Hobbiton was an ex teacher and so knowledgeable with a calming manner. The tour guide at Hobbiton was great as well and everything runs to time but you’re not rushed. Everyone needs to visit here 😊😊
