Enjoy a magical 6-6.5 hour tour to the Hobbiton Movie set, used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film series, which has made NZ famous.
Leaving the port, we first travel past the stunning beaches of Mount Maunganui, a top NZ holiday destination, across the harbor bridge and into the country, over the Kaimai mountain ranges, into the lush farming district of the Waikato, the location of Hobbiton.
At Hobbiton you can visit the Shires Rest Cafe, browse the souvenir shop or just take in the stunning views before joining the 2.5 hour guided tour, explore inside a Hobbit home and finish at The Green Dragon Pub with a complimentary Ale.
As Cruise ship arrival times varies so much, we adjust the start time to suit, which we confirm to you when your booking is accepted, always having you back at the ship in good time for its departure.
Please see the Additional Info section for details of our cancellation policy should the ship cancel its port of call within 24 hours of arrival.

We adjust the tour start and end time to suit the ships time in port, which varies greatley
These tour operate only for cruise ships passengers visiting Tauranga
If the ship cancels its port of call within the 24 hour notice period, we will offer you a partial refund of the tour cost, adult refund is $160 NZ, youth refund is $150 NZ and a child refund is $140. We cannot offer a 100% refund as the Hobbiton Movie set does not offer any refund in such circumstances.

5.00We were given very clear instructions about where to join the tour and everything went like clockwork after that. Keith our bus driver was able to answer all questions and gave a good little narrative along the way. As for Hobbiton itself, it is very well run. Our guide was pretty good but we could see other groups whose guides were even better so that will be just your luck. There are a few pretty steep inclines in case it matters to you. There is an app you can download which takes you through the tour as well. You can go inside one hobbit house and that is fun - you can even climb into the bath if you want to. You get a free drink at the end. I took the ginger beer and it was really great! We made it back in plenty of time for our cruise ship as well.

4.00Interesting trip, really enjoyed the Hobbiton movie set. Be prepared to walk a little bit up and down hills. The cup of cider at the end was a refreshing surprise.

5.00The village looks exactly like it does in the films, with colourful hobbit doors, beautifully kept gardens, and rolling green hills that feel straight out of Middle-earth. Every corner is full of charming details that make the set feel real and alive. The guided tour is informative and fun, sharing great stories about how The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were filmed. A drink at the Green Dragon Inn is a perfect way to end the visit. Overall, Hobbiton is a must-see and truly unforgettable.

5.00Amazing experience ! My mum and me booked for the 27th Novemeber 2025 directly through tripadvisor. , the booking process was smooth, straight forward and clear communication through-out, even with the time 12hour time difference. The trip is excellently ran, the tour guide was there to meet us at the exact spot at the exact time, seamless! We were lucky to have guided commentary through our the coach ride into hobbiton, Ian our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the whole of the island, plants, animals and New Zealand as a whole. Hobbiton was amazing! Our local hobbiton guide was fantastic, with a real passion and love for her job! Thank you once again to her! The trip from start to finish was unforgettable and I can't thank you all enough, thank you so much to Ian and team, highly recomend a trip not too miss!

4.00Although one might expect rolling hills, there are some steep parts to the trail around the set. Because one visits the site as part of a specific small group and other groups are ahead and behind, one really cannot wander through the site at leisure. Our guide was very good and we were well tended, but it was a group experience and was defined by the age and abilities of the other members of the small group.

5.00Absolutely excellent, it was very easy to follow their instructions and was very well organised. Worth the price especially considering it’s the same experience as a cruise ship excursion. Hobbiton was magical and I would definitely recommend and do it again. Brian our guide was the best!

Brian, our tour guide, made the 1.2 hour trip from Tarunga to Hobbiton so interesting, sharing facts and information about New Zealand, the countryside and Hobbiton. Learnt many things I didn't know. We then spent 3 hours at Hobbiton on a guided tour, lunch and browsing gift shop. So worth it. A must see if you are in NZ.
