This beautiful part of Australia receives many visitors, both animal and human. The trained guides at Coral Bay Ecotours prioritise the comfort and safety of all guests, but we also do our best to ensure everybody enjoys themselves. Those who are swimming with the humpback whales will have a chance to interact closely with them, but our guests who wish to observe from a distance will also have plenty to keep them mesmerised.

On our humpback whale tours, we often see other striking animals like dolphins and manta rays, and of course, mother whales resting while their calves frolic in the calm waters. These splendid animals have also been spotted amusing themselves by rolling in the water, waving at us with their huge pectoral fins, slapping their giant tails playfully, and even jumping out of the water!

Humpback whale season in Coral Bay begins at the end of June and runs through to mid October. During this time it is estimated around 30,000 whales pass through Ningaloo Reef on their annual migration, sometimes stopping to rest, shelter, and play in the calm waters of Coral Bay. We are dealing with Mother Nature and animal behavior. Therefore opportunities will vary from day to day. Nothing in nature is guaranteed, however every effort will be made to ensure you have an amazing day out. For each tour there is 14 swimming spots available. If and when our trained guide deems it is safe to do so, swimming guests will enter the water at a safe distance from the animals either from the side or in front of the whales path. It is then all up to the whales and each interaction will be on their terms. Humpback whales can be curious and may approach swimmers, or they simply may pass by. An in water interaction is defined as being in the water within the exclusive contact zone.

It was an unforgettable tour with our crew: Matt, Marina, Liz, Lilly, and Laura. The team is simply fantastic—perfect timing for whale watching from the boat—accurate and precise instructions. We learned a lot about whales and now see these wonderful animals in a whole new light. Thanks also for the great pictures from Laura! She is a fantastic photographer.

I can’t recommend Coral Bay Eco Tours enough to enjoy the reef and the ethical interaction with humpback whales. They are extremely ethical with the animals and the environment, making it very clear how important they are and setting strict rules regarding interaction with marine life. They feed you all the time, and the food is high quality and absolutely delicious. The staff are incredible, always helping you and explaining everything you need, as well as teaching you about the importance of animals such as sharks and sharing fascinating facts about the lives of whales. We couldn’t have chosen better, and we would definitely repeat the experience because we were so happy!

It was one of the best days of our lives! Paula, Jen, Marina, Laura and the skipper Paul made it even better. We got blessed with amazing conditions and were able to snorkel three times with the whales, each snorkel got better and better. The two snorkeling sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, were also fantastic. The guides were so knowledgeable about all sealife. Laura, as the professional underwater photographer, took pictures of us and all the wildlife, we‘re really excited to see them! Throughout the day, we saw so many more whales and generally sealife. Finally, the food they offer is great and you won‘t be hungry. With the glass of bubbles at the end of the day, we were able to cheers to that exceptional experience.

What they don't tell you on their website is how well you're taken care of. From helping you into a wetsuit and photo's of the group, to hot towels and champagne afterwards. We got incredibly lucky with swimming with a total of TWELVE whales. Incredible day that I will hopelfully never forget. NB If you get the chance to have this incredible experience, don't eat too much during the lunch. You'll regret it during your final snorkle. Thank me later ;)

Brilliant tour. Swam with 3 lots of humpback whales, snorkelled with the manta rays. Catering was very good. The crew were amazing.
Whales turtles sharks fish and wine! Just do it...

Wonderful experience!! The team was friendly fun and professional!! You can tell they do it for passion and they are gonna do the best they can to make you swim with the whales! The reef snorkel are also great! Whales, turtles, wonderful reef and friendly reef sharks with a glass of sparkling wine at the end do you really need something else?! The price is justified there is also a plane flying to help you spot and swim with whale and the photo are done by a professional! Thank you to all the crew and the skipper for the great day!!!🐢🦈🐋🪸✌️

It was just a fantastic trip and a once in a lifetime experience to be in the water on two occasions watching two whales swim past you from a short distance. The staff were all so friendly, helpful and very patient. The big beautiful boat is fantastic with a soft rubberised floor and there is plenty of room and the good was plentiful and great. While snorkeling we saw plenty of colourful reef fish, 4 turtles 2 reef sharks and large amounts of beautiful coral. Highly recommended. We will be back to do the Whale Shark and Mantara tours in 2026

Such an amazing tour could not recommend it enough! So worth the money for what you get to see/experience! Got to see reef sharks, octopus, so many turtles and other fish and of course humpback whales! Not only did we get to swim with the humpback whales but the tour made sure each group got to have multiple attempts to swim with the whales and watch them breech! Also the staff were super friendly and genuinely could tell they loved the ocean and wanted us to see as much as we could! Oh and the food was amazing as well! Could not recommend it more!

We went on a tour to swim with humpback whales with Gee Ruby and the underwater photographer Dan. The experience was awesome for the 4 of us. The photos Dan sent to us were spectacular. Thank you to the whole team for this unique moment :-)
