Riding the Icelandic horse is a must-do at least once during your visit. It connects you to Icelandic history and allows you to experience the most authentic travel method there is in Iceland. The Lava tour is a more popular and ideal adventure for beginners as well as experienced riders. During the tour you will ride in beautiful landscapes through lava fields, green hillsides and enjoy a mountain view. For 1.5 to 2 hours, or 4 hours with transfer, your tour offers you a relaxing coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Included are riding helmets, rubber boots, rain wear, or warm outfit for your ride.

Due to possible harm to unborn children, pregnant women cannot ride on our tours
All riders must be able to mount the horse by their own strength from the ground
In our tours up to two children or youth may travel with each adult, paying full fare

Before the riding tour starts we organize the groups according to riding ability to ensure everyone gets an experience and adventure they want! The slow group will mostly walk and the faster group will ride at a faster pace. If you like to gallop we recommend our exclusive horseback riding tour. We recommend that children under the age of 12 stay in the slower group with their guardians unless they are used to riding horses. Our stables are located a short 20-minute drive outside of Reykjavik’s city center. This horseback riding tour is a perfect way to experience the versatility of Icelandic nature in only 1.5-2 hours.

5.00(And Trip Advisor ) The last two days were extra special as I was given a fabulous horse who tölted well. So smooth. Safe yet forward. Not all of them tölt well, so I will be sure to ask in the future to avoid bumpy horses . The guides were lovely and the horses are well cared for and loved.

5.002 adults and 2 children aged 9 and 10 had a fantastic afternoon. We were fortunate to have good weather and throughly enjoyed the beautiful trail. All non riders, we had calm, lovely horses. The people who work there clearly love the horses and treat them so well. They were very kind and helpful and made the experience. We would all highly recommend.

5.00I am so glad we did this experience! I learned so much about the Icelandic horses and got to spend a lot of time with them. They are so beautiful and friendly. We took a two hour ride through an 8000-year-old lava field and it was incredible. This is a unique and cool way to experience the land. Our guides were kind and fun and made sure we were well cared for. The ride accommodated all experience levels. I would absolutely do this again.

5.00My second time at Ishestar, brilliant place. The riding tour is adapted to the skill levels of the participants and the group is sometimes (not this time) split in two on this basis. Fantastic staff, they even went out of their way to let me meet the horse I had on the last visit (don't think he remembered me though, haha).

5.00The staff and especially the Girls who looked after us on the ride were absolutely wonderful, they really looked after us. They were very informative and chatted about everything and anything you wanted. Everyone was very professional. The horses were so sweet and knew where to go anyway 😅

5.00The place is easy to find. I’m a beginner in horse riding, and the coaches provide us a lot of comfort throughout the journey. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about horses. Horses are well trained and overall very smooth and enjoyable riding. I had a great time and will definitely recommend others to join this tour.

5.00Was amazing for an experienced rider! I usually don't go to "touristy" horse tours, since they mostly oriented on beginners with subpar boring horses. However, here I was offered a horse matching my skill level and he was the love horse from the first sight (very responsive and gentle, alert, but safe). I also noticed that beginners in a group seemingly enjoyed their experience too. Pick up/drop off option is also very convenient. Highly recommend!
