Explore Icy Strait in style aboard our custom built 6 passenger whale watching catamaran with an enclosed heated cabin, restroom, indoor seating, outdoor seating, & 360 degree walk around viewing deck. We limit our vessel to 6 passengers max (whether private or mixed) to provide our guests with an uncrowded, relaxed, and intimate wildlife experience.

On the day of your tour, we will pick you up from your cruise ship port and return you via van. Our excursion is 3 hours and 45 minutes from pick up to drop off (includes meeting, transit, & loading time). We designed this excursion to be one of the longest whale watching tours offered in Icy Strait. This extra time on the water allows us the opportunity to fully experience Icy Strait's rich diversity of marine wildlife.

We guarantee whale sightings or you will receive a full refund.

We designed our calendar to accommodate as many ships as possible. A calendar listing specific ships can be found on our Vivid Endeavors website.

Icy Strait

Icy Strait is a legendary body of water that connects the protected inside waters of Southeast Alaska to the open Pacific Ocean. The nutrient rich waters of Southeast Alaska make it one of the most productive ecosystems in the world. During the summer months, these abundant fjords become the ideal home and feeding ground for a large population of Humpback Whales. Humpbacks travel to the area every year after their winter breeding season in the warmer waters of Hawaii and Mexico. After navigating over 3000 miles, we often see the same individual humpbacks return to Icy Strait year after year. Humpbacks aren’t the only wildlife in the area. Our trips often encounter Sea Lions, Seals, Porpoise, Sea Otters, Bald Eagles, Coastal Brown Bears along the shoreline, & our favorite – the awe inspiring Orca better known as the Killer Whale.

Hoonah

On the day of your tour, we will meet you at your cruise ship port and then transport you through the town of Hoonah to the local harbor where our whale watching vessel is docked. Our brief van ride offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Occasionally, we'll even see wildlife (including Eagles) on our ride to the vessel. After your time on the water, we will transport you back to your cruise ship docking area. The van ride is approximately 5 minutes.

If there is a spot on Seth’s boat grab it. This was my first whale watching and was such a wonderful experience he made everybody feel at home. He keeps the group semi private so there’s only six total. You don’t have to fight people for a spot or stand in a spot so you don’t lose your spot for hours like you would on a big group watch. He was great at communicating made sure we got from the port to his boat and back in plenty of time. He made great recommendations. We saw a lot of whales. He found us a bear. We saw many eagles. The sea lions were super cute. His boat has an indoor cabin as well as the outdoor deck area. You can walk at 360 around his deck. He even has a bathroom on board. He provided water, hot beverages and chips. Icy straight point was just absolutely gorgeous. I will definitely try to make it a cruise stop in the future and I will definitely reach out and see if there is a spot on his boat. I cannot wait to book again with vivid endeavors.

This was a highlight of our trip, Captain Seth is so personable and went so close to these magnificent humpback whales, if we go back to ICC straight point, I will definitely do this trip again! His boat is so clean and comfortable! I cannot recommend him enough!!

Seth was amazing!! He explained what to look for on the whale watching excursion. He was great at finding the whales and how the whales behave. He pointed out otters, sea lions, whales and we saw a bear on shore.

This was a great way to see whales, bears, eagles, sea lions and an otter! Seth got us up close to witness many spouting and tail shots. Comfortable boat and he was very personable and answered everyone’s questions. Would definitely do this again!

Seth is a fantastic guide. He knows a lot about Hoonah and showed us orcas, humpback whales, bald eagles, sea otters, sea lions, and a bear. What makes this tour especially nice is that you are with only a small group of people, so you have plenty of time to take photos. I highly recommend this excursion, especially if your cruise ship docks at Icy Strait Point. If it were possible, I would have given it even more stars.

We travelled on a small 6 person boat with Captain Seth. It was obvious he knew what he was doing and he found humpback whales immediately. He then found a pod of orcas and we got up close and personal with them. It was amazing. We highly recommend Seth and Vivid Endeavors. . Highly recommend.

Well, this was fantastic and Seth the Captain was brilliant. We saw humpbacks, orcas, coastal brown bear family, bald eagles, sea otters, harbour seals, deers, geese, river otter and squirrel. WOW ,,, such a fantastic array of wildlife. It was so much better on a small boat ( only 6 folks) as Seth was able to tailor the experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending this tour xx

Amazing day with Captain Seth. Met us at the excursion hub and gave us detailed instructions of how to get to the meeting point from the ship. Seth keeps the trips to a maximum of 6 people which makes the whole experience more comfortable. We saw lots of wild life, Humpback Whales, Orcas, Brown Bears, Deer, Otters and Bald Eagles. Would highly recommended booking this trip you won't be disappointed.

Our small-group tour with Captain Seth was an unforgettable experience! We watched a whale surface again and again, lifting its tail high after each round of breaths — such a beautiful sight. We also spotted a few bald eagles and even an otter along the way, which made the morning even more special. Captain Seth was professional, friendly, and always made sure we had the best possible view. He kept us updated about other whale sightings that day, some in rougher seas, and even gave us the choice — stay with our playful whale in calm waters or venture out to choppier waves for a chance to see more. We all agreed to stay, and it was the perfect call. The calm conditions, the relaxed pace, and the close-up moments with that one incredible whale made for an unforgettable trip. Highly recommend this tour and Captain Seth for anyone visiting Hoonah — it was the highlight of our Alaska adventure!
