Absolutely GREAT! April 8-11, 2025. Guides: Jose Luis (main guide) and Sergio were GREAT, attentive and knowledgeable. Jose was quite personable and charismatic. This is a Peruvian company and we want to support the locals. As part of the package we were picked up and dropped off at the airport, saving the stress of finding our own transportation. They recommended a hotel near the center of town. Very nice. The scenery was spectacular, as expected. Totally amazed at the extent of structures the Incans and pre-Incans built. First day was sunny. Second day was rainy ( this was the day going over the two high passes). Third day was nice and sunny and we got a great view of Machu Picchu. Fourth day was rainy and cloudy and we explored the lower portion of Machu Picchu. 16 in our group: 22 porters and 2 chefs plus the 2 guides. FOOD: Plentiful and amazing! Three meals a day and amazing variety. ALL the food, including the vegetables and eggs are carried by the porters. Always ate in the dining tent supplied with camp chairs and tables. Chef Rolando was incredible with what he prepared. He always made us our vegetarian food (too much). Also accommodated needs of other hikers. PORTERS: Jeez, what can I say but OMG. You do not have a personal porter, they all worked collectively. They carried ALL the tents, sleeping bags, food, cooking supplies (grill, large propane tank, tables, chairs, dining and cooking tent) from site to site. We got up at 4:30 each morning, eat at 5 and be off by 5:45-6. After we started the hike, the porters packed all the tents, bags, etc. from the campsite and then trotted, passed us while we were hiking, carrying their huge packs. They would then make it to the lunch site and set up the dining and kitchen tents before we arrived. Then packed it up, passed us and had the evening campsite completely set up by the time we got there. They had bowls of cleaning water set up in front of each tent first thing in the morning and in the evening. I was amazed at how they trotted down the steep steps on the trail in the rain!! They worked their butts off. TRAIL: Much of the trail is paved rocks that the Incans had placed and is STILL intact and good condition. Amazing that the trail, the terraces and other structures have survived for over 500 years! I found that my trail running shoes were fine. For me, boots were NOT necessary. Many hikers just had tennis/running shoes. I didn't use poles, but many did-personal preference. As it turns out, because of all the rain the prior weeks, our third and final campsite was closed, so we hiked all the way to the bottom (where you would normally finish on the fourth day). This turned out to be a much better situation. The fourth morning, we took the bus back up to Machu Picchu (raining that day). there are local vendors selling snacks and drinks for the first half of the trail. bring Soles. EQUIPMENT: Tents and ground pad included. Also included, but not mentioned in the pre-hike information, were a pillow, sleeping bag liner and poncho. We brought ours because we didn't know they were provided. We rented the sleeping bag and the extra air mattress. GRATUITIES: the recommended gratuity for the porters was 60-80 Soles (Ecuadorian currency-about 3.6 Soles per USD). Tips are collected on the third night for the porters and cooks (2 separate envelopes). The porters typically come from the countryside and small villages where currency exchanges are not nearby. So, it is recommended that you tip with Soles. I would recommend getting 50's, 20's and 10's before you start your hike. The reason is that there are 22 porters and 16 hikers. If every hiker gave a 100 Soles bill, it would be hard to split those 16 notes 22 ways. Seeing what they did, we gave more than the recommended amount. 80 Soles is about $22 USD, which is not much for what they did. Cooks got a bit more. Each guide recommendation is about $10 USD per day per hiker. The guides typically live in Cusco, so USD would probably be fine, but we tipped with Soles. BATHROOMS: The bathrooms for the first half of the trip are provided by the locals who live there. They are outhouses and typically charge 1 or 2 Soles, so get a bunch of 1 and 2 Soles coins before you hike. Bring TP. OTHER TIPS: Cusco is over 11,000 feet. Try to get there two days in advance to acclimate to the elevation since you will be hiking over two passes of 13,828 ft and 11,811 ft. Currency Exchange: they only take USD, or other notes, that have NO rips or tears in them! So make sure you have clean bills. Value Added Tax: If you purchase goods (not food, etc) see if the merchant can give you the appropriate form (not just a receipt) so you can get credit back at the Lima airport for the VAT. A receipt is NOT adequate at the airport for a refund of the VAT Lodging: They will pick up early (4:30 - 5) at your Cusco hotel. We did the TreXperience tour the day prior to the Sacred Valley. It was 11 hours (7 AM - 6 PM). Don't do that! Do a tour of Cusco instead.

Wonderful experience with a local Peruvian guide and porters. Challenging for most, but my ten year old made it. The 4 day trek is the way to go, so many ruins to see. The food was really amazing every breakfast lunch and dinner. Beyond expectations really with the food. Tents were well prepared. Very well organized. Great company to choose for this experience.

Elisban is one of the best tour guides, we did the 4 day Inca trail and Elisban was with us every step of the way. He was extremely well informed about the history and was great with communicating and story-telling. He also helped us navigate the trail (some parts of it were extremely exhausting) and Elisban would guide us through patiently giving us plenty of time to rest, hydrate, and recover so that all of us managed the trek without any mishaps. A 10/10 experience with a 11/10 tour guide and hiking instructor in Elisban.

This trip was fantastic from start to end. Johnny picked us up from our hotel, which was really nice. It is simply incredible how hard the porters, cooks, and guides work to make this experience premier. The food was fantastic, you will not go hungry, I can promise you that. Johnny gave very Insightful lessons about the Inca sites and culture along the way. Two of us had birthdays during the trip, and the cooks made a huge cake to celebrate. Most of all, Johnny made us all feel like one big family during our trip. I’m going to remember this forever and I would highly recommend Johnny as a guide and this company as a whole.
