The classes are focused on traditional Indonesian cuisine using fresh & seasonal local produce, ensuring all dishes are packed with flavor. During the class, you will learn traditional cooking techniques, and the staff will inform you what ingredients you can use as substitutes abroad, to ensure you can prepare the dishes authentically and innovatively back home.
Cooking and food are at the heart of the classes, but you’ll leave with much more than a full stomach. During the class, you can ask our chefs anything you like. They love to share their knowledge of Indonesian culture and local life.
The chefs are from either Lombok mainland or the Gili islands, and are well versed in the local Sasak culture; from marriage traditions and social norms to education and local lifestyles, you’ll get an intimate picture of what it is to be Indonesian.

Our charismatic chefs will guide you and your friends through preparing, cooking, and eating several of the region’s most popular dishes like kelopon, mie goreng, fried tempe, and more. Whether you love Indonesian food, cooking is your passion or you're just curious, Gili Cooking Classes offers a fantastic, fun-filled introduction to the Indonesian cooking culture! Open every day with classes at 11:30am, 4pm, and 7pm/8pm (low season/high season). The Intro Course (3 dishes, 1h30) - Kelopon - Fried tempe + peanut sauce - Fried noodles Four of a Kind (4 dishes, 2h00) - Kelopon - Fried tempe + peanut sauce - Fried noodles - Yellow chicken curry The Super Six (6 dishes, 2h30) - Kelopon - Fried tempe + peanut sauce - Fried noodles - Yellow chicken curry - Chicken taliwang - Gado gado Vegetarian or vegan? No problem! We will replace the chicken with tofu/tempe and we have vegan oyster sauce. We can accommodate almost all dietary preferences.

5.00We had a great experience at this cooking class! We did the Four of a Kind Class and made 4 lovely Indonesian dishes. Our instructor Benny was so friendly and spoke very good english. Would recommend this class! Benny is fabulous☺️

5.00We did a cooking class and enjoyed it immensely. Instructor Ben was helpful, humorous and an atmosphere maker. The group was also pleasant and the number of people was perfect, not too crowded. Step by step we were explained what to do. We made 4 delicious dishes and ate them together. This cooking school is definitely recommended, if you like socializing and cooking!

5.00A great way to learn the basics of Indonesian cooking! Our chef was very professional and a great communicator. I did the 4 dish course - start with the dessert and end with the main and eat in reverse! Delicious
So much fun! LOVED the end result…eat EVERYTHING we cooked!

5.00Honestly the cooking class on Gili Air was hands down the highlight of our whole trip. We didn’t expect it to be that good but wow. Benny the chef absolutely made it — he was hilarious, super energetic and just fully got into the vibe. It didn’t feel like a class at all, more like cooking with a mate who actually knows what he’s doing. The food we made (and smashed afterwards) was unreal. Like… genuinely impressed with ourselves 😂 Everything tasted so fresh and legit. If you’re heading to Gili Air, you HAVE to do this. Such a fun experience and easily one of the best memories from the trip.

5.00My partner and I took the Super Six class. It was awesome! Ziat was a fantastic teacher. The dishes were delicious. We will definitely make them when we get home. Highly recommend this experience.

5.00We had a great time. Oka, our instructor, taught us some secrets of Indonesian cuisine and the use of essential spices. After the preparation, comes the best part: taste the dishes, so I advise you not to eat too much before class😁 We would have liked it to have spices on sale, and the pretty apron we used would have been a nice souvenir.

5.00My boyfriend and I absolutely loved this class! Our teacher, Oka, spoke great English and was a pleasure to talk with. He gave clear instructions and showed us step by step all the dishes and gave lots of background information. The food we made was delicious and we both found the portions to be perfect for the two of us. I left feeling full and happy. This class is perfect for anyone that enjoys food and I would absolutely recommend it!
