Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre
At historic Dalkey Castle (1390), Costumed Living History Actors bring the ancient history to colorful life with archery, barber surgery and a cook giving a masterclass on circular economy (nothing was wasted) in medieval times, as part of every guided tour. Tour also includes exploration of the atmospheric 10th Century St Begnet's church & graveyard connected with the site. The heritage center is also included with interactive screens in different languages & scale models. A Writers’ Gallery features interactive panels of the work of 45 locally connected creative artists from James Joyce to Bono and Samuel Beckett to Maeve Binchy. Climb to the battlements for magnificent views of the surrounding stunning landscape view of the sea and mountains. If you are with a larger group, perhaps add on a guided walk. Tours every 90 minutes.

5.00This was fantastic! So informative. The guide was so knowledgeable and the performers were so wonderful. Even with a few people who kept interrupting, they improvised their way out of it. Well done everyone! Well worth it!

5.00We really enjoyed our tour of the castle. The idea of the actors really added an extra dimension. We loved the way they interacted with the visitors. It was all was organised and the presentation was excellent. We'd young teenagers with us and they really enjoyed it. Excellent value for money and the length of the tour was perfect. All the staff were friendly and professional.
Very interesting and entertaining experience of Dalkey Castle. We learned about the history of the area & the people.

5.00ChatGPT recommended this visit! 😆 and I can’t thank it enough - I didn’t read any reviews beforehand and we just turned up after a short Dart journey from where we were staying in the marina in Dun Laoghaire. We were welcomed by the staff at the desk and were told the next tour was 45 minutes later - as we chatted, the previous group finished there tour and came into the reception, all of them beaming and saying how great it was. It really was great, it was a wonderful interactive Theatre production, we learnt so much not only about the history of the castle, but also about this part of Ireland many years ago. I won’t say too much about the experience, because I want you to enjoy the surprises too! Just go, you won’t regret it - well done to all the team involved at the Heritage Centre.

5.00We don't go to live performances but really enjoyed the live interpretations of castle life. Afterward, we tried to recall all of the things that we learned. Dalkey (seems to rhyme with talky) is easy to access from Dublin - about an hour ride south on DART. The town is picturesque with lots of food options. Just north of Dalkey is Dun Laoghaire with its maritime museum and Sunday fair. All three made for a great day.

5.00We weren't sure what to expect. But after the first bit played by the actor, we were done. It was humorous, interactive and very informatively contradictory. We have regularly been in a dent during the tour. The acting level of the different actors was also very good. We were sorry that the tour had not lasted a little longer. Highly recommended if you visit Dalkey, for all ages.

5.00I'd been before and had really enjoyed it, this time I brought friends from abroad and they loved it. There's an interactive section which is great fun and it's relatively short so nobody gets bored etc. It's informative too, nice section on Dalkey's history. You can incorporate it into a day in Dalkey, walks, Colimore Harbour, a bite to eat, a coffee, pint in Finnegans. It's a surprise destination for people who are visiting Dublin and everyone enjoys it. The castle tour is a recommendation!
