Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre

At historic Dalkey Castle (1390), Costumed Living History Actors bring the ancient history to colorful life with archery, barber surgery and a cook giving a masterclass on circular economy (nothing was wasted) in medieval times, as part of every guided tour. Tour also includes exploration of the atmospheric 10th Century St Begnet's church & graveyard connected with the site. The heritage center is also included with interactive screens in different languages & scale models. A Writers’ Gallery features interactive panels of the work of 45 locally connected creative artists from James Joyce to Bono and Samuel Beckett to Maeve Binchy. Climb to the battlements for magnificent views of the surrounding stunning landscape view of the sea and mountains. If you are with a larger group, perhaps add on a guided walk. Tours every 90 minutes.

I was much impressed by the care and attention to detail given by the guide and the actors. The facility is well cared for and the staff is well informed. Highly recommended!

The inneractive tour was awesome. We felt like were were there in medieval times. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. We would definitely recommend it to others.

Super interesting experience, the person who visits us explains great! We have learned a lot about the history of Dalkey but also Dublin. Very cool to have actors to interpret the story 👍

We've done this tour several times, my kids love it! It's great for families, but also for visiting groups of friends/colleagues who want a hit of history in an imaginative and memorable way.

The Living History tour was an amazing performance !!! Entertaining, interesting and well organised. The Castle is in excellent condition and in general , the whole place is well cared. Many events , (Halloween tour, Literally walks). One visit is just the beginning.
