We drive from Húsafell onto Langjökull (''Long Glacier''), the second largest glacier in Iceland, where our adventure begins at Klaki base camp. A thrilling snowmobile ride takes us over the immense expanse of ice & snow to the ice tunnel entrance, nestled high atop Langjökull. We spend 1 hour inside the tunnel before reboarding our snowmobiles for the return ride. A valid driver’s license is required to operate a snowmobile. Children and guests without a license can ride a double snowmobile with a licensed guest. The minimum age for joining this tour as a passenger is 8 years.

Cool experience but a few aspects let it down

As part of our Iceland road trip we booked this snowmobile and glacier tour - we drove to Húsafell and were given a helmet, gloves and full waterproof overalls. Tour guide was very friendly! We drove to the top of the glacier and were shown how to ride the snowmobiles, this experience lasted maximum 20 minutes and it did feel quite rushed but visibility was pretty poor on top of the glacier and even the instructor stated normally it’s clearer than this. Then we had the glacier tour where you go into the glacier itself - they give you crampons to wear whilst inside which is great! The history of the glacier is really interesting. Cons: - We weren’t given any goggles/glasses before the snowmobile experience despite attending at the start of winter - it was really difficult to see where we were going on the snowmobile as the snow/wind kept blowing into our eyes. Note to visitors - make sure you bring your own sunglasses!! - Our snowmobile was running very low on fuel and was noticeably slower than the rest of the group, such that everyone else had to wait for us to catch up. - The ride from Husafell to the glacier was about an hour, and the truck was full. Just be aware of this if you get car sick / claustrophobic as this wasn’t advertised. - The glacier tour is into a man-made glacier and there’s a lot of diesel fumes still present on the ice from machinery. It’s very cool, and of course it’s dug out from an actual glacier so seeing all that ice is very surreal but that did bring it down for us, just not as natural as other landscapes throughout Iceland Overall we don’t regret going and would mostly recommend this experience - the goggles and having enough fuel would’ve made the most difference!

The tour guides Dissa and Ryan were friendly, welcoming and answered all our questions. The guides helped us take pictures and kept us warm on the truck journey. The tour was educational and exciting. We had some time outside the caves for pictures and plenty of time in the ice caves too.

A fantastic experience, 100% recommended. Omar was our guide and was very friendly and close. He explained everything perfectly and taught us everything we needed to know about the glacier, the ice cave, and things about Iceland. It's clear he has experience with snowmobiles.
Great eccursion

Interesting excursion. Start at Husafell activity centre where you can get some food and drink (and toilets). Big bus takes you to the starting point where you kitted out with your gear if you go onto the snowmobile. Last stop for toilets flr a while😁 a special big truck takes you onto the glacier where you put on crampons to explore the tunnels with your guide. Surreal to be inside the glacier. We then went to the snowmobiles where unfortunately i started feeling really unwell and did not want to chance passing out during the drive, so my partner went by himself. My partner really enjoyed the drive (just a shame some people feel the need to hold everyone up because they want to record themselves on the snowmobiles and do their own thing, even after the guide asking them to drive single file etc several times). Great excursion though that takes about 4 hours. The guide will take your phone to take pictures of you on the snowmobile if you want.

Amazing experience! Snowmobiling on a Glacier was truly exhilarating. The views from atop of the glacier were spectacular! After the snowmobile ride we entered the Glacier and learned about its past and future. Omar was an amazing tour guide both knowldgeable and jovial, he ensured our entire group enjoyed the experience.! Highly recommend this combo tour!

This tour was amazing! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with the snowmobiles as well as making sure we were comfortable and not too cold! Great group size as well with opportunities for pictures.

Great trip from Húsafell. Our two tour guides, Omar and “Joe” where amazing! Omar was the one with us into the glacier and was great and they both had good humour! As an only 2 Icelandic people on the tour (except the tour guides) it was amazing and recommend it 100%!
