There is no better way to see and hear about the views, culture and history en route to various Highland Attractions round Inverness than from a kilted Highlander. A fun fact day out that should not be missed during any visit to the Scottish Highlands.

PLEASE NOTE: During the winter months the Great Glen Distillery is not open to the public however we can still obtain a tasting at the main buildings.

Clava Cairns

The Clava Cairns are about 4,000 years old and were built to house the dead. The cemetery remained a sacred place in the landscape for millennia, and provides many clues to the beliefs of Bronze Age society. What remains today would have once been part of a larger complex. Two parts of the complex, Balnuaran of Clava and Milton of Clava, are open to the public. The sites contain a range of prehistoric burial monuments and the remains of a medieval chapel.

Culloden Battlefield

The richly researched, stimulating and sensitive Culloden Visitor Centre, which stands beside the battlefield, features artefacts from both sides of the battle and interactive displays that reveal the background to the conflict. It is both a monument and a guide to a pivotal day in history.

Our day with Go Highlands Tour Company and our guide, Sarah Summerfield, was truly unforgettable. This trip was especially meaningful to me because my mom and I are huge fans of the Outlander books, and Sarah went above and beyond to connect the history with the story we love. My mom couldn’t travel with me, so I was sending her pictures and videos of the day that Sarah helped me capture. At Clava Cairns, Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle, and Beauly Priory, she not only shared fascinating historical details but also tied them beautifully to the Outlander world. She was so knowledgeable, attentive, and thoughtful, making sure the timing was perfect at every stop. And she’s a true local, so her information had depth and authenticity. It truly was the best day ever, and an experience my mom (and my friend who went with me) and I will always treasure. Thank you, Sarah. We are now big fans of you!

Terrific day tour of Inverness environs. Our guide was very knowledgeable and hit all of the highlights. Culloden, cairns, Cawdor Castle, Urhquart castle, Loch Ness, two distilleries and took us to his favorite viewpoints.

George was a fantastic tour guide. He noy only provided great information but added the personal touches and stories that made this one of the most enjoyable tours we have ever been on. A million times better than usual tours. Highly recommended. We will be back.

We had a WONDERFUl tour with George from Go Highlands! He picked us up (and dropped us off) at our hotel and was an amazing guide through the Highlands. It was incredible to have a true local as our guide to give us unique insights, stories, and information about the places we went. We saw Clava Cairns, Culloden, Urquhart Castle, Great Glen Gin Distillery, COOS!, and more. We will definitely book with George again when we come back. This is a day you don't want to miss, the private tour was absolutely way to go.

From the initial conversations with Alastair discussing our bespoke tour, I felt I had chosen the right company. Due to some issues with our rental car, we had to make some last minute changes to our pick up and schedule, and Alastair was very communicative and accommodating. His van was clean and comfortable. We were travelling with 3 generations (21 to 85) and he went out of his way to make sure everyone got the most out of the experience. He was very helpful with my father who has some mobility issues. Alastair is an excellent tour guide. His personal experiences, attentiveness and historical knowledge added so much to our experience. We spent a full day travelling to Beauly, Dog Falls in Glen Affric, Loch Ness with Urquhart Castle, Culloden Battlefield and the Clava Cairns. We could have driven ourselves but we would not have gotten as much from the tour without Alastair. He went out of his way to provide a great experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and I would highly recommend Alastair and Go Highlands tours!

All the destinations along the trip are amazing so that much is a given, but it’s the quality and knowledgeability of the host that makes all the difference. George is an absolutely marvellous guide and I can not recommend him & his tours highly enough.
