Important Note regarding Maligne Canyon Waterfalls: Due to damage caused by last summer’s wildfire, access to Maligne Canyon is currently closed by Parks Canada for infrastructure repairs to ensure visitor safety. If these repairs are not completed prior to your selected tour date, the short walk to view waterfalls in Maligne Canyon will not be possible. In this case, the tour will proceed with a slightly altered itinerary, offering alternative stops to showcase the area’s unique beauty. This includes a visit to Maligne Lookout, where you can view the dramatically changed landscape from a high vantage point, and additional time at Medicine Lake, featuring a short walk along the shore for stunning perspectives of the lake surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Please rest assured that the tour length and price remain unchanged, and the overall experience will still provide incredible opportunities to explore and learn about the Maligne Valley’s natural wonders.
To request complimentary pick-up from your accommodation, please specify which hotel you are staying at. Pickup times vary therefore your exact pick-up time will be confirmed upon booking.
If you are staying outside of Jasper, please specify Jasper Downtown Location - at Two Brothers Totem Pole across from Parks Canada Information Center on Connaught Drive. Your meeting time will be 15 minutes prior to your trip’s departure time. All-day parking is located in the parking lot.

**Please note:** During early season departures, typically throughout May, snow and icy trail conditions in the Maligne Valley may require adjustments to hiking locations or tour routing. Alternate stops or walks may be substituted as needed while maintaining the overall sightseeing experience.

This guided sightseeing tour takes you through 45 kilometers of the most spectacular scenery in the Canadian Rockies. The Maligne Valley in Jasper National Park is home to abundant wildlife, diverse flora, and unique geological features. Travelling through rich wildlife habitat, your guide shares the history, ecology, and natural wonders of the area. Although the waterfalls are closed due to the 2024 wildfire, we’ll stop at Maligne Canyon Overlook, where your guide explains the fire’s ecological effects and the landscape’s natural recovery. Continuing deeper into Maligne Valley, we stop at Medicine Lake, where dramatic limestone cliffs rise above the shoreline. During a short walk, you’ll learn about the lake’s geology and have excellent photo opportunities. From Medicine Lake, we travel through sub-alpine forests, prime habitat for moose, bears, and other wildlife. Sightings are common but not guaranteed. At world-famous Maligne Lake, enjoy a guided 2–3 km lakeshore hike, taking in glacial-blue waters, mountain vistas, and forested surroundings. After the hike, enjoy a packed lunch you bring or purchase from the Maligne Lakehouse Café (additional cost) before returning to Jasper.

5.00Although the weather was bleak our tour guide Jake was a shining light. He was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the area, wildlife and their habits. He also explained and showed us the effects of fire in the forest across time which was very interesting. Loved the hike around the lake in spite of the mud but thankfully I had made the correct shoe choice with waterproof hikers. We saw Eaglets in the nest and their ever watchful parents nearby, also Osprey in nest, Moose, Elk and Squirrel. After our walk had the best waffles ever! Definitely value for money.

5.00We had an amazing day on this trip and the best of it was our fantastic guide, Sam, who is so knowledgeable and experienced with a wonderful dry sense of humour. Learned so much and saw so much including Elk, different types of deer, big-horned sheep, marmots, chipmunks, bald eagles, bears, and best of all an enormous MOOSE! He made our visit so special and memorable. Thank you Sam!

5.00My friend and I had a great experience with our guide Owen, a young lad who is very promising and passionate about what he does. We enjoyed the hike around Malign Lake talking about the flora and fauna. We managed to spot a majestic moose, a black bear and few other native animals. Unfortunately, we were not lucky to see a grizzly bear 🐻. I definitely recommend this trip to anyone wanting to experience the wilderness in Jasper. If you don't like to hike, you can go on a boat ride at Lake Malign.

5.00Wow!! Great day touring with Ross! Everything was perfect. Comfortable bus and on-time. Ross was extremely knowledgeable and super interesting! We saw a lot of wildlife including right up close to a bull moose. We both enjoyed the day so much and would highly recommend this tour!

5.00Fantastic tour of the surrounding area with very knowledgeable guide in Owen. Owen knew all about the bears, birds, moose and fish that we saw, even giving a bald eagle chirp (not cry, see I was paying attention! We saw two black bear (one each at two different locations), moose, bald eagles, osprey, mule deer, rainbow trout ! Owen knew all about the locals animals we didn’t see: Grizzly bear, wolves, marmot and elk. He e learned about how some trees are pretty fire resistant and survived the 2024 fire. You will be happy to take this tour, especially if you luck out and get Owen!

3.00Jake and Bella were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, giving us a wealth of information about the area, history as well as deep understanding of the animals in the wild. We saw a grizzly bear, mule deer, and elk, long horn sheep and rams and an eagle! Transportation was comfortable with large windows for viewing wildlife and the beautiful landscapes. The hike was longer than anticipated. Our friend with a bad knee did half the hike and walked back to starting point. We did the whole hike after Jake explained it would be muddy with some steep inclines. He neglected to mention the tree roots which were everywhere on the trail and posing challenging risk for us elderly people trying to navigate the trail. Also we asked Jake several times to slow down as my husband and I are both over 70, but he continued at an impossible pace to keep up with. He did stop occasionally to point out something and explain but we still could not keep up despite being in quite fit condition for our ages. I even emailed tour operator in advance to notify them of our friend (who’s over 80) who has a very arthritic knee and we were assured the hike would be at a “gentle pace.” It was not so if you are elderly and/or not in the best shape, strongly reconsider doing this tour.

5.00We didn't have much time to spend in Jasper, but I saw and learned a lot on the Maligne Lake trip. It was definitely worth it. Our guide was Jake, who is so knowledgable about local wildlife, history, and landscapes. He went above and beyond to make sure our group spotted some wildlife, including bald eagles, osprey, mule deer, mountain goats, and a split-second sighting of a moose. Thanks for a great day of hiking and exploring Jasper and Maligne, Jake!

5.00We had a great guide in Jake who took us on a wonderful wildlife adventure around lake Medicine and Maligne. He was very informative and knew where to look for the nature we were looking to see, and we found lots! Would 100% recommend if that is what you want to see whilst around Jasper

5.00Wonderful trip hosted by the excellent Ross and Logan. Ross was a treat with his stories about Jasper national park and his knowledge was second to none - absolute star! Logan was also very knowledgeable and friendly. We saw Elk, Golden eagle, deer, trout, Harlequin ducks and marmot. A great day out would totally recommend.
