Important Note regarding Maligne Canyon Waterfalls: Due to damage caused by last summer’s wildfire, access to Maligne Canyon is currently closed by Parks Canada for infrastructure repairs to ensure visitor safety. If these repairs are not completed prior to your selected tour date, the short walk to view waterfalls in Maligne Canyon will not be possible. In this case, the tour will proceed with a slightly altered itinerary, offering alternative stops to showcase the area’s unique beauty. This includes a visit to Maligne Lookout, where you can view the dramatically changed landscape from a high vantage point, and additional time at Medicine Lake, featuring a short walk along the shore for stunning perspectives of the lake surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. No guarantee you’ll see wildlife but our guide Sam made a good effort to look for some. He was a wealth of knowledge and very interesting.

This trip was quite sad, seeing all the destruction caused by the 2024 fire. Many attractions are closed now, so didn’t get the full experience. Spirit island cruise was good

This particular tour would’ve been well worth the money even if we had had a cloudy day and didn’t get to see any wildlife. Our bus driver, Sam, was a encyclopedia of knowledge about the causes and results of the recent and huge Jasper Fire. He studied forestry in college and helped us all understand that the fire, while devastating to the residents of Jasper, was overdue and much needed. He took care to point out the signs of regrowth, and showed us the difference between a healthy forest and a forest that needs to be renewed by fire. 🔥 Nelson, our guide while we were on the boat tour, gave us excellent information on the legends and beliefs of the Five First Nations as it relates to Maligne Lake and Spirit Island. Most of what you could find about Spirit Island on the Internet is not true, which is no big surprise. When we got back on the bus, we saw some additional wildlife near Medicine Lake and Sam took us down by the lake where we could hear the water draining into the underground river. Absolutely fascinating. I could go on and on about how these two young men made our experience both delightful and educational. It was a very worthwhile excursion!

This was an excellent trip and is highly recommended. We had Ross take us in the minibus to Lake Maligne and he was an excellent guide. He is a 3rd generation Jasper resident and a previous professional wildlife photographer so very knowledgeable about wildlife and the local surroundings, he also shared his personal experiences of the dreadful fires last year and the affects it had on the local community. We were very lucky to see several female Elk, 3 big bull Elks, male and female Bighorn sheep, a young Bald Eagle and an Osprey. Quite a sight for our trip. Ross even showed us his personal collection of Moose and bull Elk antlers and male bighorn horns. The boat trip up the lake to Spirit Island was captained by Sam and Maxwell was the tour guide. They made an excellent duo and the information and banter from Maxwell was first class. Ross took the rest of the group, who were not on the boat trip, for a hike and amazingy saw 3 Moose, and they swam across a stretch of water too - I was very jealous on not being part of that hike! I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 joined trips and I highly encourage anyone with a day to spare in Jasper to book this tour.
