The Jewish tour of Recife and Olinda is a very special experience for those interested in learning more about the presence of Jews and new Christians in Recife – in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Guide historian will take you to know the main milestones of the Jewish presence in Brazil and about the Brazilian colonial economy, the religious culture of the Brazilian people and about the European wars that brought Portuguese Jews from the Netherlands during the 17th century. In Olinda we will visit some of the main churches, markets and streets of the colonial period and main vestiges of the Marrana presence in Brazil in the 16th century, in addition to the house of Branca Dias, and a mikveh (purification tank) that is representing the "marrana" cultural resistance in the colonial era. .
In Recife the tour will be in the historic center where concentrated most of the Jewish community during the Dutch period of the 17th century we will visit the first public synagogue of the Americas.

5.00Unbelievably meaningful and complete tour of Jewish and non -Jewish sights of Recife and Olinda. But this was much more than a tour but a personal and intimate account by 2 phenomenal tour guides,Jader and Eve, who supplemented with accounts from their family’s respective experiences. We ended the tour with a sherbet dessert. This was the best tour we ever had.

5.00Lovely way to look at Recife in Olinda with longtime Jewish residents who know the history well. Very moving to explore Jewish neighborhoods and imagine their energy before everyone moved. Jager was the historian who spoke only Portuguese but his sister Roseane translated which worked out alright. They were amenable when we wanted to stop and look at other sights along the way. Really a pleasure to spend the day with them.

5.00Those who want to have a memorable, enriching and unforgettable experience about the early Jewish presence in Brazil, can do this tour. I met the first synagogue of the Americas : fascinating ... the house of Branca Dias ( in Olinda ) , the Jewish neighborhood , already from the post-war years , where there were shops , houses and a Jewish synagogue at the time but which is still in perfect condition . For those from Rio type to Plaza 11 and nearby areas. My guide picked me up at the hotel and we made several circuits. I felt very well received. Meu guia foi o Jader Taschlitsky . He has great knowledge of any matter involving the Jews and Recife. Masters the subject very well and is a very nice and friendly person.

5.00Victor is very, very knowledgeable, considerate and personable. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and were exposed to everything we wanted to see plus more. We were quite interested in seeing the synagogue and he explained its history in depth. We could not have been more pleased. Kudos to Victor. You are lucky to have him.
