After breakfast and briefing, drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (about 1 hour), register and commence the climb. Walk through the rainforest to the Mandara encampment. A side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus trees, bird life, and Colobus monkeys. Elevation: 1860m/6100ft to 2700m/8875ft Distance: 8km/5mi Hiking Time: 3-4 hours Habitat: Montane Forest Meals: Lunch and Dinner

You leave the glades of the rain-forest and follow an ascending path on the open moorlands to the Horombo encampment. Views of Mawenzi and the summit of Kibo are amazing. Look for giant lobelias and grounsels. You may begin to feel the affects of the altitude. Ascending, we now pass the last watering point, walking onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Vegetation begins with upper heathland but then disappears into “moonscape”. Dinner, rest, and prepare for summit climb. Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), commence the climb to the summit on steep and heavy scree or snow up to Gilman’s point located on the crater rim. Continuing, we now ascend to Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa. There are unbelievable views at every turn. Have your picture taken at the summit to show your friends and family. From here we descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing on to the Horombo encampment. Elevation: 4700m/15,500ft to 5895m/19,340ft Down to 3700m/12,200ft Distance: 6km/4mi up / 15km/9mi down Hiking Time: 6-8 hours up / 6-8 hours down Habitat: Alpine Desert Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

After breakfast, a steady descent takes us down through moorland to the Mandara Hut. Continue descending through lush forest path to the National Park gate at Marangu. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). A vehicle will be waiting for you at Marangu gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 1 hour). 5.00Had a great time with Africa Trek and Travel to do a 5 day Kilimanjaro summit via Marangu route. Organising the trip through SebastiantheGuide and guided by Valence on the trek. It was a seemless process that ensured I was looked after the entire time and were able to enjoy the serenity. Would recommend to anyone considering doing Kilimanjaro or a safari. 5.00Had a great time climbing kilimanjaro! the guides were amazing. Very friendly and proffesional. They could perfectly predict the rain so we never had to worry about wet gear. Made it to the top with no troubles and early enough to see the incredible sunrise!

5.00Our 4 days trek to the summit of Mt. Meru was incredible! From initial planning to the final push to the top, everything was organized with care. The guides kept us motivated and made sure we were comfortable each day. Their positivity and energy created a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone considering attending Meru trekking I will be attending Kiliwarrior with them on 2026.

5.00Climbing Mount Meru over four days was absolutely incredible! The trail is challenging, but every moment was rewarding. Our guide was phenomenal, providing us with fascinating insights about the wildlife and ensuring our safety every step of the way. We were able to spot buffalo, giraffes, and even a few rare birds along the trek. The campsites were comfortable, and the meals were hearty and satisfying after a long day of hiking. Reaching the summit at sunrise was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and the views of Kilimanjaro were surreal. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!

5.00Climbing Mount Meru with the African Trek & Travel crew over 4 days was a fantastic trip that exceeded all expectations. The guides promoted camaraderie among the crew from the smooth organizing of the approach to the thrilling summit day. They were informed and helpful. A sea of clouds and sharp peaks surrounded the summit, creating a strange scene. The climb up to high camp provided amazing views. The journey down was just as fulfilling, full of introspection and joy at our accomplishment. I would definitely suggest the African Trek & Travel crew for any climbing excursion because of their expertise and passion, which combined to make this expedition an amazing experience.

5.00African Trek & Travel Organise our 4 days Mount Meru Climbing was an adventure of a lifetime! The trail was a perfect mix of challenge and beauty, leading through dense forests, open plains, and up to the summit with unparalleled views. Our guide and porters were fantastic, always cheerful and supportive, and they really went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and prepared for each day. Watching the sunrise from the top was simply breathtaking, with Kilimanjaro visible in the distance it felt surreal. This trip was truly worth every moment and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing hiking experience in Tanzania!"

The landscapes were stunning, with breathtaking views over the savannah and forests, and the peak offered a magical sunrise over Kilimanjaro in the distance. Our guide was outstanding his knowledge of the terrain, wildlife, and local culture made the journey even more enriching.
