Joo Chiat street is a street slightly off the beaten path, but worthwhile having a look at. It consists of primarily Peranakan town houses, many of which have been restored and converted into shops, cafés and restaurants. It seems to be popular with expats. There are a number of second hand record, CD and vinyls stores, RetroCrates and Cherry Lane being the best, with a really good selection of 1970s and 1980s vinyls; City Book Room, an alternative bookstore that feels like the living room of an apartment, and many more.
