Walk through Singapore's rainforest and discover a unique heritage site set in lush greenery.
We will walk through 2 nature reserves, going through the majestic rainforest. Expect to see wildlife, exotic trees and fruits, and experience a diverse trail that'll take you past imposing banyan trees, clear streams, up canopy observation decks and over elevated boardwalks.
The last segment of the walk goes through a heritage cemetery that is set in lush greenery. You'll see the tombs of some of Singapore's forefathers, some grandly adorned, and get a glimpse of Chinese burial traditions. It's a large, lush, peaceful area with designated paths, open to the public (we're not punking it out - no worries). We will finish via a thicker part of the jungle that features bushes, curtains of greenery, and a solitary forest temple.
The itinerary occasionally goes along roads that connect the various areas. We're in the bush, but civilization is never far away.
Public transportation options are available nearby
Infants are required to sit on an adult’s lap
Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Not recommended for travellers adverse to walking 3 to 4 hours in hot, humid weather - and the occasional equatorial downpour.
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
Rifle Range Nature Park
We will enter the nature park via the elevated boardwalk and regroup at the visitor centre for final preparations before setting off (drinking water, toilet, insect repellent, park etiquette, etc). The trail is in great condition and will take us through the jungle. Expect to see squirrels, monkeys, birds, walk past mighty banyan trees, clean streams, seasonal fruit trees and lush greenery. We'll come out on the other side to connect with the McRitchie trail.
MacRitchie Nature Trail
We will enter the McRitchie nature reserve through the Rifle Range Road side, likely seeing monkeys along the way. The path dives back into the jungle, meets a stream, reaches an observation tower (which we can climb for a canopy view) and comes out of the forest via a swamp boardwalk. At that point the path opens onto the south-east side of the McRitchie reservoir and skirts a scenic golf course, before diving back into the forest.
There are no admission fees to pay.
I recommend you bring at least 1.5 litre of water each. There is a water fountain at the start, but none until we reach the end.
