Higashi Chaya District (and Kazue Machi)

The most famous tea district and Geisha/Geiko area in Kanazawa. It is also the home of Kinpaku (Gold leaf crafts). You will have the option to make your own gold leaf creation there.It is also possible to drink authentic green macha tea.

The Samurai District

Visit the streets where the Samurai lived. You will enter the houses of the Ashigaru (footsoldiers), and then view the larger residences of the more powerful samurai.

You will have the option of entering the Nomura Samurai house. A kutani pottery museum and tea gardens are also en-route. There is also the option of taking a break for tea or a bite to eat here.

Kenrokuen Gardens

The famous gardens of the six attributes, facing Kanazawa Castle and Utatsu Mountain.There are opportunities to take a break, and to enjoy tea ceremony.

We had an absolutely unforgettable day in Kanazawa with our guide Nozomi, and I can't recommend her highly enough. Nozomi took us through the Nagamachi samurai district, including the stunning Nomura samurai house and a stop at Kaburaki Kutani Pottery, then on to an authentic tea ceremony at SOYU where we experienced both koi-cha (thick tea) and usucha (thin tea) — a highlight I hadn't expected to move me as much as it did. The afternoon continued through the beautiful Higashi geisha district, where we visited SHIMA geisha house, picked up a gorgeous piece from Shitsurae, and marveled at the gold leaf artistry at Hakuza Hikarigura. We wrapped the day with a wonderful soba lunch at Buemon. What made the experience truly special was Nozomi herself. She was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about Kanazawa's history and culture. She brought every stop to life with context and stories that we never would have found in a guidebook, and she struck the perfect balance between being informative and letting us soak everything in at our own pace. This tour far exceeded our expectations. If you're visiting Kanazawa, don't hesitate — book with Nozomi. You won't regret it.

Tetsuya was an excellent guide with lots of information about all the sites we visited including the castle, Kenrokuen gardens and the Geisha district. A native of Kanazawa with excellent English, he had a warm and friendly manner. He was flexible as we had already visited the Nagamachi Samurai area and changed the route for us. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us and making our visit to Kanazawa enjoyable and memorable!

I had a fantastic afternoon with Nozomi yesterday touring the Geisha and Samurai districts. She was an amazing guide, with such a wealth of knowledge and experience. Nozomi explained the history of the areas in detail and accommodated any requests for stops on the way. She was so patient in oanswering my long list of questions. Nozomi provided me with advice on other things to do in Kanazawa. She was such a kind, thoughtful and enthusiastic companion for the afternoon. Thank you Nozomi and Kanazawa Tours.

We had a private tour with our guide Sachiko Nakal this morning. Sachiko is an excellent guide. Her knowledge and enthusiasm made the three hours very interesting. We got there early before the crowds hit ( which I recommend) which, along with Sachiko excellent commentary, made the streets come alive and you could imagine what it was like hundreds of years ago. We also went to the gold leaf factory. Not to be missed. Ask for Sachiko and you will have an excellent tour.

Nozomi was energic, fun, and incredibly well connected in the city. I was impressed with her connection to so many of the artisans of Kanazawa. Impressively, we decided to spend the first part of the tour in the Geisha district, and Nozomi was able to provide a full history and background from memory, without planning. Additionally, she heard we were interested in seafood and pointed us to a very special restaurant to enjoy after the tour, even calling and making a reservation for us. Never would have found that place on our own and I've never seen my dad so happy at a meal.

My family and I went on the half day tour with Nozomi and we had a wonderful experience in Kanazawa. She was incredibly kind, enthusiastic, and genuinely passionate about the city and its history. Her energy made the tour engaging and enjoyable from start to finish, and she explained everything clearly while sharing many interesting details and local insights. She was also very attentive and made sure we were comfortable, answering all our questions with a smile. Thanks to her, we gained a much deeper appreciation of Kanazawa and its culture.
