Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

At the Temple of the Sacred Tooth with its golden roof is located a tooth of the Buddha which is most sacred relic of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The room where the tooth is housed is opened during puja (offerings or prayers) to devotees and tourists, although the actual viewing of the tooth is prohibited. The tooth is stored in a gold casket resembling a dagoba (stupa) shaped casket with six dagoba caskets of smaller sizes nested within. Along with the main temple which is highly revered, the complex contains smaller temples, shrines, and also a set of museums.

Kandy Lake

Kandy Lake is without question the epicenter of the town. Although Kandy is plagued by screeching diesel buses which cruise around the southern tip of the lake, these buses do not stop the leisurely strolls around the lakeside seats. The area near the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is the most pleasant area to walk around.

    We had the pleasure of spending a full day in Kandy with Laka as our guide, and he was absolutely fantastic – a true 5-star experience! 🌟 He was recommended to us by our hotel, and it turned out to be the best choice we could have made. Laka took us through all the must-see sights in and around Kandy, showing us the city from its very best side. He tailored the tour perfectly to our wishes, making everything feel personal and unique. What impressed us even more was his care and thoughtfulness. My wife is currently pregnant, and he went above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable the entire time. He drove very safely (pregnancy-approved! 😄) and always kept her well looked after. On top of that, his price is unbeatable. We ended the day feeling completely satisfied, grateful, and happy we chose him. If you are visiting Kandy for the first time, we can 100% recommend booking with Laka.

    We had a great day with Laka. He showed us the nice places around Kandy. He is very friendly and helpfull and knows al lot about the city. He also arranged a good ride to sigiriya. And his English is perfect!!!

    Sometimes life gives you beautiful surprises, and Laka is one of them. The tour of Kandy was excellent and he bring us everywhere even in less known places. He is super professional, he speaks very well English and explain everything he can offer to you in order to have a beautiful experience in Kandy. He is one of a kind. Very passionate and ready to listen your requests. He loves his city and his country. I can’t recommend him enough !
