On the way to Kazbegi, we stop at the picturesque Zhinvali Water Reservoir, and then visit the Ananuri Castle on the Aragvi River. The castle was the scene of numerous battles and served as a shelter for the local population during the wars. Ananuri is considered one of the most beautiful historical monuments of Georgia.
At an altitude of 2200 meters above the sea level, on the southern side of the plateau of the Greater Caucasus Range, and near the Cross Pass, there is the Gudauri Ski resort.
The Panorama Gudauri is a monument to celebrate the friendship between Georgia and Russia.
Stepantsminda is a small town. The main attraction here is the Church of the Holy Trinity – the Gergeti Monastery that is located at an altitude of 2170 meters under the mountain pick of Kazbegi. Due to its location on the top of a steep mountain, surrounded by very harsh nature, the church became the symbol of preservation of the Georgian relics.

Zhinvali Water Reservoir
Jinvali Water Reservoir, also known as a lake, is located on the Georgian Military Highway. Soviets constructed the dam in the 1980s—a wonderful place to take amazing pictures.
Ananuri fortress complex
Ananuri fortress dates to XVI-XVIII centuries and it is situated on the foreland by the river Aragvi. Ananuri was a castle and seat of the Eristavis (Dukes) of Aragvi, a feudal dynasty which ruled the area from the 13th century. The castle was the scene of numerous battles. This is a perfect place for landscape photography, there are amazingly beautiful views of the fortress and Jinvali reservoir together. The fortress remained in use until the beginning of the 19th century. In 2007, the complex has been on the tentative list for inclusion into the UNESCO World Heritage Site program.

3.00Around 2/3 of the whole day is spent in the car getting to the sights and back. Very little time is left to actually see the places.

5.00We had a great experience on the Kazbegi tour. Our tour guide - Krasavchik - was friendly, funny and very knowledgeable. He juggled English and Russian languages with ease and kept the whole group entertained and informed. He even made the rain and fog disappear and we enjoyed a breathtaking view of the Kazbegi mountain. Thank you very much, Krasavchik! 😁

4.00The guide was great - professional, personable, knowledgeable. But, the tour is not organized well: English speakers and non-english speakers were combined making communication with your tour-mates difficult as well as the guide's communication being long. There was also a mix-up and some folks were let on the wrong bus. We also got stuck on the road to Kazbegi for +2 hours. Bring snacks with you as you're likely to get stuck in traffic. Also, the transport to the monastery being an extra 20 GEL per person is a bit steep - seemed predatory.

5.00Timur was an excellent guide. We were two english-speakers in a russian-speaking group and Timur did a fantastic job in including us and interpreting/explaining everything in English. The tour was amazing, great stops, enough time and an overall friendly and positive atmosphere. Highly recomnend Timur and Imperial Tours.
