Have fun talking with local people in a super smiley environment.
Shioya is a quaint peaceful fishing village nestled in a valley. It takes about 15 minutes from JR Kobe station and 40 minutes from Osaka station.
First, let’s go to the harbor. Enjoy a photogenic view of Mt Rokko, Awaji island, the Pearl bridge, even Kansai airport across the sea on a sunny day. Also, you can see Nori (seaweed) facrory when it opens(From Dec to Mar, Depends on the weather) and you can buy it on outlet price.
Then through the tunnel, we’ll go into SHIOYA town. I’d like you to know about real Japanese daily life.
I want to share my local vision with you, visiting a barber shop which has more than 100 years of history, a tatami factory, and our beautiful heritage Guggenheim house, and others when they are open.
While walking, let’s enjoy various local snacks & drinks and communication with friendly local people.
Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller
Service animals allowed
Public transportation options are available nearby
Specialized infant seats are available
Suitable for all physical fitness levels
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
Let's enjoy a food hopping walking tour! It's including some snacks and drink like a croquette, sushi rolls, a tofu, sweets, etc.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Sumile is a lovely person and made us feel like family right from the start. It was a great experience learning about Shioya but more so getting to know so many locals in the town, with us visiting many businesses and speaking to the owners. Overall it was a fantastic tour and it was great to meet “Auntie” Sumile and the locals. Aragato Goziamuse Sumile-san!

Sumile san is the Japanese friend you've always wanted. She is friendly and warm, generously sharing what she loves and her friends with me. I was the only person who booked so it was an amazing "private" tour at my pace. There is so much to see and do at a seemingly quiet little town, which i would never tread into if not for her. I read about her tour somewhere (I just can't remember where!) And decided to make a stop at Shioya enroute from Arima Onsen to Osaka. No regrets and I love that she helps me connects with the community, introducing me to the everyday life and people of Shioya, who loves their community. Such a kampung spirit in a world where people are more insular than ever. Go book this tour and experience if for yourself. You are most welcome.

I really enjoyed my tour in Shioya. It was a very personalized tour since in total it was me, the tour guide, and one other person who was Japanese. Many tours take you to the very popular spots that are very touristy. What I appreciated about this tour was that it felt like I was visiting a friend or relative who was taking me to local spots. We went to a small nori factory that was a small family business. I learned so much about making nori. In fact, when I told tour guides on my other tours, they also told me that they had never been to a nori factory. We also had the opportunity to purchase some amazing nori. Our tour guide also took us to a local cafe where the owner had a special event and was selling some unique crafts. Our tour guide also took us to a local sushi restaurant. She knew so many people in the town and she didn’t hesitate to introduce us to some of the residents of the town. The tour guide also gave me great recommendations for other places to visit in the Kobe area while I was there. I would highly recommend this tour.

We had a fabulous afternoon with Sumile exploring her hometown of Shioya. We were looking to get the feel of a smaller city, and this tour was perfect. We met several local shop owners and were treated to sushi, coffee/tea and other goodies. This was a very authentic experience to see what a local's life is like. Sumile is a joy to have as a guide. She shared interesting facts and stories about Shioya which added to the authenticity of the trip. I highly recommend this trip to spend a peaceful day away from the big cities!

After reading the existing reviews, we booked this trip from the UK a month or so before we arrived in Japan. The reviews were not wrong !! What a lovely time we had !! We came in on a cruise ship, and Sumile met us at the cruise terminal and took us by metro and JR trains to Shioya village in an unrushed way, giving us lots of information on the journey- In perfect English. At Shioya train station she handed us over to her colleague ’Scottie’ (as she had to get back to Kōbe that day), and we started the tour proper. At our own pace, we visited a Sea Weed processing factory (not something you see every day), then down to the small harbour, all the time being given lots of information about the village and what happens where. From the harbour we went into the village proper, through the ‘compact’ winding streets until eventually we ended up in a small local coffee which was lovely and warm after what was a cold day outside. We spent a good hour in here drinking coffee and talking all things Japan with Scottie (an Australian who has lived in Japan for 15 years, and knows what’s what); In the meantime the owner of the cafe gave us some treats including Japanese tea, and some Japanese Caligraphy written by her in front of us as a gift from Japan 😊 When we left the Cafe we went to a fish shop where Sushi was purchased for us which we ate at a table in the meandering passageways around the shops; Spent the remainder of our time just walking through the village and picking up lots of information about Japan before it was time to return back to Kobe on the train by ourselves (a very easy journey) If you want to go somewhere to spend lots of money in tourist shops, and see lots of crowds, then Don’t do this trip !! But, if you want to see genuine Japanese village life in an unrushed way, then this is the trip for you. Thanks to Sumile and Scottie for a great time 😊😊

It was a really nice day in Kobe Shioya with our nice guides Sumile and Scoty. We had a lot of fun and interesting conversations about the stores and small companies that Sumile showed us. When we arrived in Shioya we wondered what there might be interesting things to see here, but were not disappointed. Since Sumile is from Kochi, she was of course very well versed and we felt very comfortable and safe on our tour. The encounters and conversations with the local people, who were also all very nice, was a real experience. The meeting point (Shioya Station) was easy to find and easy to reach. It is highly recommended to have a guide to yourself, because the guide could respond much better to our questions. My conclusion, gladly again it was just beautiful.

I had a lot of fun speaking to people, exploring and eating food on this tour. The sense of community in Shioya was amazing and the people were so genuinely friendly, nice and fun to chat to. It's also got a lot of character and there were so many unique things to see that Sumire pointed out and explained. I loved learning about the culture and really appreciated joining conversations with the people there through Sumire who introduced me to everyone! It was really unforgettable and I highly recommend it if you want to see a side of Japan that's often missed by tourists

My wife, our son, and I visited the city of Kobe with Sumile for my wife’s birthday, and the three of us have wonderful memories of that experience. It was a fabulous experience alongside a friendly and enthusiastic guide! Later on, we also joined her for a tour of Shioya. This charming little village with its fishing port is truly worth the visit. For a few hours, you leave the noise of the city behind and find yourself wandering through quaint streets full of authenticity. Meeting friendly locals, learning interesting anecdotes about the town, and strolling along the port at the end of the day all contributed to making it a beautiful family day. Shioya is a pleasant, small, and peaceful place where the locals are incredibly welcoming. Once again, Sumile made our day in Shioya a special one for the three of us, and for that, we thank her warmly. It’s an experience I highly recommend if you’re traveling to Osaka or Kobe and want to discover an authentic and refreshing village.

I had the most amazing morning and lunch with Sumile on my tour. She is a local and knows this lovely fishing village like no other. The best part was when we went to a traditional café. I loved meeting and talking with the locals! It was such an authentic experience. If you wish to see what real, day-to-day Japanese life looks like, I strongly encourage you to do this tour!
