Start your day with a true Korean adventure as we explore Mangwon Market to pick out the freshest ingredients for our cooking session. Mangwon Market is a vibrant local market in Seoul with over 40 years of history, and as a Korean MZ Ajumma, it’s where I grocery shop daily. You’ll get to experience shopping at my favorite go-to stores in the market. You’ll learn how to prepare three iconic Korean dishes: Bulgogi (marinated beef), Gyeran-jjim (steamed egg), Kimbap! Our class welcomes everyone, from seasoned cooks to complete beginners. Together, we’ll create a delicious Korean-style home meal and enjoy it in a cozy studio. For a true cultural experience, we recommend you take any leftover kimbap to the nearby Han River, spread out a mat, relax, and enjoy a sunny picnic like a local! All you need is an appetite and a sense of adventure. Come hungry, and leave with delicious memories and a taste of Korean culture. Please make sure to arrive on time! If you’re more than 10 minutes late, you might miss the market tour. Let’s respect everyone’s schedule and have a great experience together! If you have any dietary restrictions, please let me know in advance.

Sunghyun (who goes by Phoebe) started the business that offers this experience about 6 months ago and, wow, what an awesome experience she provides! We started with a tour of the near by traditional Mangwon Market including food samples and interesting insights into what was being sold and the cultural background. We then went to her new, clean, beautiful kitchen/studio where she thought us to cook three traditional Korean dishes (beef bulgogi, gimbap and gyeranjjim). Our family had a wonderful experience and wish Sunghyun all the best!

The food we made was delicious and Phoebe was an amazing teacher and host. We loved chatting to her about Korean food/culture and exploring the market too. The studio is located in a convenient spot near Mangwon station and it was very cosy and pleasant to cook in! We would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for less touristy and crowded things to do in Korea :)

I had much fun! The shopping experience in the market was great, busy enough to have a wide variety of items and stalls but not so busy it was congested. After shopping, we went to the kitchen and started cooking. The variety of food options we made was perfect. Phoebe was incredible, so kind and welcoming. Afterwards we ate the delicious food and just sat and chatted. It was such a lovely time.
