Cetinje

Cetinje is a historic city in southwestern Montenegro, often called the “Old Royal Capital” of the country. It lies at the base of the Lovćen mountain range, in a valley surrounded by limestone hills and forests. Cetinje is known as the cultural and historical heart of Montenegro. It was the royal capital of the Montenegrin state for centuries, and many important institutions, embassies, and royal residences were established there during that time. Because of this, the city has a strong sense of heritage and national identity. Some key features of Cetinje include: • Cetinje Monastery, one of the most important religious sites in Montenegro • Former royal palaces, which now serve as museums and cultural institutions • A compact city center filled with 19th–20th century architecture • A calm, small-town atmosphere compared to the coastal cities
