Led by a local resident of over ten years, this walking tour is shaped by daily life in Kyoto and a deep personal passion for its history, culture, and geisha traditions.
Your guide is a History passionate and Hospitality focused (has owned a Cafe and Guesthouse and worked as Head of Hospitality at the World Expo), but above all enjoys sharing the hidden stories of Gion in a relaxed and friendly way.
As we walk at an easy pace, with time for photos and questions, you will discover how the world of geisha truly functions, their arts, rules, and daily routines.

Gion Shirakawa
A peaceful ribbon of water flowing through the heart of Gion. Lined with willow trees, traditional tea houses, and stone lanterns, Shirakawa feels like a step back in time. Tatsumi Daimyojin Shrine

5.00We had a wonderful tour with Michael, even in the rain. Sharing his knowledge and passion for the history of Kyoto made an interesting walk of the Gion district. Including many stories and sites off the tourist track. Highly recommend you include this on your discovery of Kyoto.

5.00Michael was very knowledgeable of the hidden gems of Kyoto. I have done a tour before, but with Michael it was by far the most detailed given his passion for the Japanese culture.

5.00We had an amazing experience on this tour! Our guide was incredibly friendly and genuinely knowledgeable. You could tell he loves history. A real highlight was spotting two geishas, which made the whole thing feel extra special. We did the tour in the rain, but honestly it didn't dampen the experience one bit. He also gave us some great restaurant recommendations that turned out to be delicious. It's a shorter tour, but don't let that fool you. You'll walk away having learned so much. Highly recommend!
Michael had great knowledge and stories. Enjoyed the highlights & hidden gems of Kyoto & specifically the Gion District.

5.00We wanted to thank Michael for a very enjoyable couple of hours sharing with us his extensive knowledge of Kyoto and specifically the hidden gems of the Gion area. The history of the Geisha was fascinating and visiting the temple and sharing local traditions was very worthwhile. Everything was made even more special with the backdrop of the “Cherry Blossom”. Michael was very prompt and meeting up was smooth and strategically thought through to end up with easy access to the train station. Would highly recommend Michael and his English was very good.
