KZ-Gedenkstatte Mauthausen
The former concentration camp Mauthausen is about 20 km from Linz and was the largest German concentration camp of the National Socialists in the territory of Austria. The Austrian Federal Government has built a museum in a building of the former concentration camp. Today, the rest of the camp and the adjacent quarry memorial and memorial.

2.00Mauthausen is definitely worth seeing. That being said, this “tour” was simply a ride back and forth from our hotel-no other value added. We should have simply tried to arrange our own Uber or ride.

5.00Erika is very nice. She goes into the camp memorial with you and guides your around. She will even stop at a store of bakery on the way back. A very moving experience. Never forget!

4.00I booked a tour for eight people. Very comfortable ride to and from this site to our river ship cruise docking location. Our driver got us into the site, got us established with audio guide equipment, but then said that he could not function as a guide. The audio guide to the 23 locations in the site worked fine, allowed my group to split up and cover areas of interest. The booking is for a comfortable ride to the site and entry with the audio equipment to listen to the recorded history of the camp. Do not expect a person to “guide” you through the camp.

1.00Avoid, avoid, avoid. This item description is knowingly misrepresented by the tour operator. They state "private tour" yet it is simply a private taxi. They state that "admission is included in the price" yet admission is free. They state that "audio guides are included in the price" yet these audio guides are downloadable for free from the google play store. Oh and the guide, yes well oura did not soeak a word of English and so we had to pay for a further guide once we got there. Even after telling the tour company over and over again that we would be arriving by our own transport and would meet them in the car park of the facility, they continued to push us away from the location insisting that they collected us at the train station in Linz. Thinking then as you would that this was probably because it is a tour, we accepted and indeed were collected at the train station some 30mins drive from the facility. What next, well, no tour, just a taxi to the facility and that was it. Completely miss sold and so please. If you have your own transport please avoid. Entrance is free, audio guides are free and this is NOT a tour, just a taxi service and a VERY expensive one at that. After requesting a refund from the tour company, they refused and became very argumentative and continued to lie, get details incorrect and misrepresent themselves further. As such, i had no other choice but to contact Viator who secured a partial refund within the hour. Don't waste your energy on this misleading advert.

5.00Was a moving experience. Can’t say it was enjoyable too see ovens and gas chambers, but driver/guide was great and made for a memorable day.

5.00A real eye opener of the brutality of mankind . The tour guid was brilliant explained everything very well and answered all questions even the awkward ones . Some places in the camp are let’s say moving as it was an awful place ,but needs to preserved to tell this awful story to future generations.
