  This was a great excursion that was relaxing, peaceful, and beautiful. We enjoyed perfect weather on a boat that zoomed across Lake Atitlan, then enjoyed a cacao tasting, honey tasting, and textile demonstration all in the city. The guide was very kind and informative, and we had some time to walk around and explore/shop.

  Definite a long day and you have to have a strong stomach. Between 2.5 bus ride each way and shaky boat trip, you probably might get sick if you are not good with motion sickness. I loved it. So much to see, you get to visit 3 villages by the boat, enough time to explore, walk and eat around! Long 13-14 hrs day. If you have time an option, stay at Atitlan for a few days but if you have just 1 day, this tour is great. Guide Elena was wonderful!

  The short version is that the operator likely outsources the shuttles, causing uncertainty and sub-standard service. You won't see much in Panajachel or San Pedro, and the tour focuses on San Juan and Santiago. Bring cash for the tuktuk (50 quetzales per person, not 25 as listed in the tour), plus the lunch place wanted cash. Our tour guide Maria Azulcena was terrific and spoke decent English. The full story - we were picked up at our place and on time, so that was good. Driver didn't say a word to us for the 2.5-hour ride to Panajachel. A few people got off at a first stop, the rest of us confusingly remained on. Good thing, as we went a few minutes more, where we met the tour operator and were broken into groups. Regarding the return shuttle at the end of the day, the tour operator frantically sorted people here-and-there and ended up stuffing us into a van rather than a shuttle bus. We all had seats/belts, so we weren't overstuffed, but it was still tight, hot, and not what we expected. The driver made a stop after an hour which seemed unnecessary. He and others got food, and we were there about 20 minutes. Some traffic as we got back to Antigua, so the ride home ended up around 3.5 hours. Overall, neither shuttle met our expectations. The tour started at a local restaurant. We bought breakfast at a local spot, basically as-described in the tour details. We didn't see any of Panajachel in the morning, or when we returned in the afternoon. A bit disappointing. Next a boat ride to San Pedro. We got a good cacao processing demonstration, followed by a tasting of some cocoa drinks. Nothing else toured here, right back to the boat. Then another boat ride to San Juan, the highlight of the trip. Saw a few local streets and a church, then went to a textile demo. The demo was at a cooperative with an attached shop with nice items for purchase. We had a little free time - you should go see the Calle of the Sombreros because it's not part of the tour - then we went to a bee/honey demo. That was an interesting and worthwhile stop. Back on the boat and over to Santiago, an interesting small town with a blend of modern and traditional Mayan culture. Had lunch at the recommended restaurant - decent food and a good experience with traditional local food. Then the tour group voted for tuktuks - we were told we see 1 sight if we walk, 3 sights if we ride. Really, the operator should just raise the price $3 and include the tuktuks as part of the tour. Also the price is not 25 GTQ as listed, but 50 now. Whirlwind tour - mirador has a nice view, Maximon is a confusing deity, church is ok. Little time at the end to explore or shop. Back on the boat to Panajachel, then we walked up to the shop where we started and I already talked about the lousy shuttle home. Overall, the tour was decent, just too many towns to really see much in any of them. Maybe that's our fault, as we picked a tour with 4 towns, when there are tours with less. Also, we chose to stick with our guide rather than go off and explore on our own. We got a good exposure to the various collectives and cooperatives and learned quite a bit throughout the day. The shuttle service was disappointing and felt like we had joined a collective shuttle. At a minimum, the hired drivers should communicate better with the tour group.

  Overall, it was an enjoyable day, but the tour was not what I expected. The hotel pickup and ride to Pana was fine, but it really was just a shuttle. I was expecting our guide to be on the bus with us from the start, giving us a little bit of what to expect/history about the lake/interesting tidbits/etc. When we arrived, we were brough to a restaurant where we could sit for breakfast. It was optional of course, but no other options were given to do during that time so we awkwardly got a table for coffee and food. We then took the boat to three towns on the lake, where I was under the assumption that we'd have free time on our own to explore and do what we wanted. Instead, we were taken to businesses chosen by them for demos and workshops, which were basically just sales pitches to get you to buy items in their shops. In San Juan specifically, there are so many beautiful streets to wander and explore, and me and a few other solo travelers ended up skipping the bee workshop to explore on our own. In Santiago, we were then taken to another restaurant for an "optional" lunch, but a reservation was already made for us and it felt forced. We asked if we could skip the lunch and explore on our own, and we met the group back at the restaurant later. Having the tuktuks arranged for us to take us from place to place in Santiago was nice, but the cost of them should have been included in the tour. The shuttle back to Antigua was awful. We were squeezed so tightly in a van with inadequate AC, no fresh air, around winding roads for 2.5 hours. I have never been so car sick. The tour clearly just booked us a seat on a shared public shuttle, which was disappointing. Overall, I am glad I went on the tour because the lake was beautiful, but the structure and forced activities were very disappointing. Our guide Maria, however, was very sweet.

  Amazing experience overall. Didn’t travel solo but highly recommend for solo travelers. Long travel day but the bus was comfortable. You get an opportunity for breakfast after long drive but the views and tours were amazing. Our tour guide was a traditional Mayan woman so it was authentic overall! Highly recommend.

  This experience was amazing. The guides were knowledgeable, professional and friendly. However, the lack of response for the administrators was horrible.

  This was an incredible experience....Elisama was such a kind and welcoming host as was the entire team they were all so kind and welcoming and happy to share their culture. Beautiful magical moments with such lovely people in such a beautiful place. This is by far the best way to experience lake atitlan...

  This is a good way to visit the Lake from Antigua if you are short of time to pack everything in on your trip. But it’s a long day as the pick up was scheduled pre 06:00 and we did not return until 19:45 Lake Atitlan is definitely worth seeing but don’t expect a smooth boat ride across the lake. You get bounced around quite a bit so it would be worth taking cushions to help make it less uncomfortable; but possibly something to avoid if you suffer with back problems. The stop in the final village also overran and was longer than necessary which made for late drop offs in Antigua, especially if last on the route.

  It is a walk worth doing, the lake is beautiful and the villages visited are very picturesque, the journey is long but justified. Our guides very attentive.
