Lake Cave is a truly epic phenomenon. The tour takes you 60 metres underground. The National Park interpreter explains in a clear but detailed manner the chemistry and the history of the geology that receals how this cave has been formed. He also describes how a major fire that destroyed the forest there actually saved the lake because there was nothing to prevent the water that precipitated that winter from settling into the lake in the cave which had experienced drying as a result of the trees in the area absorbing all the moisture leaving none getting down to the lake. A highlight for me was when The Interpreter told us that we were going to experience cave dark and cave quiet. He7 then turned off all the lights in the cave. The cave was pitch black. Without the visual stimulation of the light, it was possible to hear the water that had taken 10 months to seep down into the cave and then drip into the lake. There are many many steps that take you down into this cave which then have to be climbed on the way back up. There are a number of platforms where you can sit and rest on the way up. I would not recommend this tour for anyone with a cardiovascular condition or any leg joint issues. For the rest of us the climb is definitely worth the effort!

My 13 year old was so amazed at how beautiful this cave is. The guide gave an excellent tour and you could feel the stillness in the silence of the cave. Be aware there are lots of steps leading down to the cave and you climb those same steps to get back so a level of fitness is important. For me this would be one of the most stunning caves I have been to.

You will learn a lot, but in a very gently, good humoured way. Many steps, so take it slowly on the way back. Our guide Tom, was brilliant.

Relatively small cave system compared to others I have visited but still highly interesting because of its unique features and history. The Lake Cave looked amazing when lit up after the lights were turned off - pretty special. Very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Definitely recommend.
