Yellowstone Hiking Guides safely leads hiking groups into the Lamar Valley on a wildlife viewing day hike tour.
Our guides are well versed in Yellowstone's unique wildlife. Safety and fun are our top priorities. Regularly, we spot wolves, bears, and other rare wildlife from the trail in the backcountry of Yellowstone.
Our tours are off the beaten path, traveling on bison trails for the majority of the hike. Most tour providers in Yellowstone spend the majority of the day on the road, or very close to the road. Our guides take you into the backcountry for unique views of the Lamar Valley that you cannot see from the roadway.
Frequently, our guests tell us that they could not do this hike on their own through the massive bison herd and unpredictable wildlife.

Lamar Valley
This six-mile tour through the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park is the best place to hike and view wildlife in North America. Your expert guide will safely lead you to wildlife viewing locations and scenic vistas that you cannot see from the road. Your guide will help you navigate the large bison herds. We sometimes spot wolf and bear, at a distance. Your guide will carry a scope for viewing these animals safely. We also see pronghorn, elk, moose, badger, ground squirrels, and an array of birds. We take a break for a picnic lunch with river or valley views.

I really enjoyed this hiking experience. The guide (Emily) was great. She was very friendly, shared wonderful history and information along the trail, made sure we were staying hydrated and took breaks along the way. The views were amazing. And the wildlife we saw along the way was cool - buffalo, Badgers, Pronghorns. I'd highly recommend this tour. Well worth it

Emily Jo and Josh are great! Emily Jo eased my concerns about taking my 12 and 9 year old daughters before we went. Then Josh met us at the trailhead and took us off the beaten path! We hiked the bison trails, saw a herd, a few pronghorns and grizzly tracks. He was very knowledgeable about the park and its wildlife. It felt like a real behind the scenes experience!

Our guide Spencer was so knowledgeable and funny! He provided a very substantial lunch and snacks for us, as well as water and Gatorade. We saw pronghorn, plenty of bison, several badgers and birds. The hike was a nice pace and we learned a lot. I would definitely recommend this for anyone wanting to get into Lamar Valley and see lots of wildlife!

We took a tour with Emily. It makes sense that she has a background in teaching, as that is what she likes to do. My wife and I both have spent a lot of time outdoors. Just the same, we came away with many new bits of knowledge and new leads to explore. I would recommend Emily’s guiding to anyone interested in learning about the natural wonders of Yellowstone including its flora, fauna, geology and history.

The tour description made the tour seem much more adventurous and rugged than it actually was. Our guide was wonderful and knowledgeable but the hike itself was very tame and not as adventurous as described. If you'd like to leisurely walk through a field of bison with a knowledgeable guide, this tour is for you. If you're expecting an adventure with a variety of animals and hiking away from the road, this isn't for you. It was a nice time but not worth the price for such a tame hike.

I went by myself for this trip and had a GREAT time! Our guide, Bob, was super nice and knowledgeable and had lots of cool information to share along the way! We saw LOTS of animals -- pronghorn, coyotes, hawks, bears, and lots of bison. Lunch was great and the views were unbeatable.

The Lamar Valley is beautiful. The morning we went it was raining. Then we got some thunder and lightning. Even with a wet shortened hike it was a good experience. We got to see a large herd of bison gazing in the valley. Our guide was wonderful, very informative while being aware of everyone's comfort and preparedness.
