This vast lagoon is perfectly suited for marine life, providing infinite sources of bait all year round for the resident fish. Targeting the Silver King will be your main priority, but there are other fish around as well. The local Tarpon population can range anywhere from 20 lbs all the way up to 150 lbs. Captain Clery will provide you with all the necessary rods, reels, and terminal tackle you’ll need for a fun time on the water. All you need to bring is a pair of polarized sunglasses, some sunscreen, and a go-getter attitude. Once you’ve danced with the Silver King, you’ll be hooked for life. Gorgeous and seemingly endless red mangroves span the horizon right on the middle of the hotel district. The marina is just a mere three to five mile run from Isla Verde, Condado and old San Juan.

5.00Backwater was able to accomodate a last minute charter for my wife and me after our original charter captain became ill. Captiain Mateo was an expert and very patient as he explained the proper way to get a tarpon to the boat. Had a tremendous experience and caught a 60"/80+ pound tarpon. Biggest fish of my life and great time on the water with Captain. Michael and Jackie

5.00Had a 6 hour trip with Captain Miguel on fly and spin. We were on feeding tarpon in less than 10 minutes. Missed one over a hundred pounds and boated two small ones, all on fly. I lost count of how many shots we had at feeding fish. The gear was top notch, the boat was clean and comfortable. Captain Miguel is a passionate fly angler and a pleasure to spend a day with. Highly recommend.

2.00Not every fishing trip produces results, but this $500 charter had problems that had nothing to do with luck. The boat came unprepared. One bottle of water for four hours in the sun, that's it. No gloves for a tarpon and snook charter, which became a real problem when we hooked two keepers. The captain literally couldn't bring them in because the line was cutting his hand. He even said he needed gloves. We only had two types of bait when the boat next to us had better options and more variety, their captain even told ours he should have more, he also said he should have bought his own gloves. Around the two-hour mark, one of our rods got tangled, and instead of fixing it, the captain just left it in the holder. When I talked to the owner after we got back, I mentioned all of this. His response was basically "sorry the service did not meet your expectations", no offer for a partial refund, no replacement trip, nothing. When I brought up the other boat having better equipment, he just said "that's a different company" (which seemed to be a lie considering both captains were talking to each other all the time), like it wasn't his problem. The captain mentioned he'd only gotten notice of the booking at 5 or 6 AM. If they can't properly prepare for a trip on short notice, they shouldn't accept it. I won't be going back, and I can't recommend this to anyone.

5.00Great night fishing trip with Captain Mateo. He made it easy and this is the perfect way to spend an evening in a beautiful place. Learned a lot and enjoyed the unhurried pace and beauty. Catching a fish was a tremendous bonus!

His patience with me was appreciated as I'm a novice. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I landed my first (and hopefully not my last) Tarpon.
