Yulong (Jade Dragon) Mountain
Meet your private guide in hotel's lobby in Lijiang, heading directly to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain which takes about 1 hour. Sit back and enjoy the sceneries along the way. Consisting of 13 peaks, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is the southernmost glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. Looking from Lijiang Old Town, the snow-covered and fog-enlaced mountain resembles a jade dragon lying in the clouds, hence, the name Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. About half of China's plant species originated in Yunnan province, and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is home to about half of these, including trees, flowers, and medicinal herbs and plants. The mountain's many ravines, creeks, cliffs, and meadows all have Naxi names and provide settings for the myths and legends of the people who have made the plain their homeland for 1,000 years. Get the information and learn its legendary stories from your tour guide. Upon arrival, take the convenient cable car to the scenic viewing point (4506 meters), marvel at the spectacular glacier and mountain views. You can choose to hike up to 4680 meters by wooden stairs. When you are ready to leave, descend by cable car.
Lijiang Impressions Show
Enjoy lunch in the local restaurant, then enjoy amazing Lijiang Impressions Show. The show is performed in daytime, using the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain as its stage background. More than 100 horses and 500 non-professional peasant actors with dark skin who are from 16 local villages and over 10 ethnic minorities give their best performance. 5.00We were picked up and dropped off at the hotel, so the tour was really catered to our convenience. We started early to catch the sunrise and were duly rewarded for our early sacrifice when we caught the golden peak of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain known as Yulong Xue Shan by the locals. We proceeded to the Blue Moon Lake for picturesque shots of shimmering blue waters under the morning sun. Then it was time to ascend the mountain, all prepared with the puffer jackets, oxygen cans and three bottles of altitude medication (the first is provided by the company and we bought the latter two). We ended the trip with Impressions of Lijiang, a one hour performance made against the backdrop of the mountain, directed by Zhang Yimou who choreographed the Beijing Olympics ceremonies, that depicts the stories of the various ethnic minorities that make Yunnan such a unique place to be in.

4.00We did not go with this organization but our own travel agency. Separate rules apply to foreigners, such as online reservations and passports. During the school holidays it is super busy here. We went out very early. Along the way I bought a drink and canisters of oxygen. From the central ticket office it goes by shuttle bus from 2800 to 3300 meters, and then into the cable car. After visiting the platform at 4500 m altitude, you can continue on the shuttle bus, to the blue. You can walk a long way along them via stairs and jetties, up to the bridge and waterfall. Many couples have their photos taken here. Then back to the starting place, where there is a beautiful show in a large theater with a rock face around the stage with ascending paths, where the actors walk on, even on horseback. The show lasts 45 minutes and the amateur actors appear in costumes of a dozen minorities from the neighborhood. You can watch for free, paid, or as a VIP in the very best places.
