Royal Palace of Madrid
The Royal Palace of Madrid isn't just a residence; it's a place steeped in grandeur and history. Although the current kings reside elsewhere, this majestic palace remains the setting for important state ceremonies and solemn occasions, making it come alive with its significance. Let's dive into its story now. While Juvarra's original vision didn't materialize, the Royal Palace stands proud as Europe's largest inhabited palace. The Spanish Royal Family might not call it home, but it still holds their official residence. Construction lasted until 1764, and when Carlos III finally inhabited it, the palace boasted a staggering 135,000 square meters, 3,418 rooms, 870 windows, 240 balconies, and an impressive 44 staircases. It's more than just facts and figures; this palace holds tales of splendor and tradition, making every step within its walls an encounter with the essence of Spanish history.

Traveling with teenagers who specialize in side eyes and squabbles, and who have grown to quietly groan when I say, “I’ve booked a tour”, I wasn’t sure how this would go. But I love learning about the places we visit and the Royal palace looked like it had stories to tell. Of course, they obliged because honestly, they are great kids and know it’s something I love but how checked out they’d be during the tour remained to be seen. Suffice to say, Beatrice was a phenomenal tour guide! She was smart, funny, and entirely engaging. All my kids were laughing, while learning! It’s a miracle, maybe being so close to The Almudena Cathedral paid off. Beatrice gets 10 out of 10 from my family and we’d gladly tour all other sites with her as our guide.

The guide spoke too fast tour was extremely disorganized. Way too many people in the group. We left before it was half over. He would walk into rooms and talk about things in the room but the line was so long we couldn’t even see what he was talking about. Infants in strollers should not be allowed. This was extremely disappointing. Would NOT recommend.

Oddly, the tickets to enter the palace on your own cost 45 or 50 euros each. This experience includes the palace entrance fee plus a great tour guide and ends up being cheaper. Great deal. Highly recommend. Palace was beautiful. Crowded, but not too crowded. Our guide told great stories and was very professional.

For $50 a person, there were 6 of us, costing $300, I did not expect 30 other people in the group! The guide did not speak great English and it was especially hard to hear her on the ear piece she gave us. With so many of us, we got entangled in other large groups and sometimes she was 2 to 3 rooms ahead of us. We left her about halfway through. I didn’t see anywhere when I purchased a ticket that there were going to be 30 other people in our group or I wouldn’t have done it.

Tour guide was knowledgeable, entertaining and professional. We really enjoyed the tour and got much more out of what we saw than if we had tried to see it on our own.

Our tour guide, Elsa(?) (Elise(?), was exceptional. She was very knowledgeable, moved us along at a good clip and also inserted a bit of humor into her presentation. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour.

Excellent tour and tour guide! She was very knowledgeable about all things related to the royal palace and it was worth it to pay a little extra to skip the line. The line looked like it was a mile long when we arrived .
